for fixed wing type planes you want no ailerons, just the rudder and elevator...once the controls are set so the right stick is the elevator/roll then you are good to go. Ailerons will quickly get a learner into real trouble, once the model rolls the learner will panic and make it worse and then crash. The rudder elevator system will produce a very tame roll (so you still get that aileron affect) which should be slow enough for you to correct if you are making a mistake. Once you are confident with all aspects of the model (ie flying towards you/away and some basic aerobatics maybe) then you could get into the aileron equipped models. Its a very rewarding hobby with a good social aspect if you join a club.
@FlyingBuzzard5 жыл бұрын
.. is that the same like logic, that demands one join the AMA , pay the folks in Muncie so you can enjoy a hobby and socialize in a club with those same like minded ? just curious and FYI had you watched the video that little plane helps a beginner NOT to over control ( roll over ) it has 3 modes something like the SAFE Tech..so one can learn by themselves and step up from beginner to experience rather quickly.....
@robraver5 жыл бұрын
@@daviddou1408 yes, the yaw/roll being slower should give the learner some time to 'twig' if they are making a wrong move. These days with those autopilot things that recover the model if you let go the controls...is just amazing.

I try to get people involved with the hobby for $150 tops with a 40 sized trainer. If you fly with someone that knows how you can fly in 30 mph winds. I take it off (or sometimes my students) and then i land it. I havent disappointed anyone yet and then you get a 4 channel radio and endless possibilities. The trouble with the cheap little planes like the one your showing is people crash them right away and never go any further with the hobbie. They assume its going to be a loss thats 10 times more. I still have the first 40 trainer i started with and its almost 30 years old. I love watching people's reaction when the wind is blowing the wing out of your hands and they think were not going home with the plane. Heck ive even flown when its was raining. Dont buy cheap and find a good guy to help you. I used to go out every night of the week helping people. Glow fuel is getting expensive though. Great fun

best thing to get is the free rc sim called FMS, its a german program I think. You will need to sort out a transmitter and lead for the computer. Its not the most high tec sim, but certainly good enough to learn with. I used a similar program back in 2003, it helped me a lot with fixed wing plane flying...where it all became second nature. The biggest learning curve was RC Helis, again the sim was good enough that when I finally got to fly my first real heli model...I was off around the field doing my first circuits. The sims that you have to buy do have added features where you can set up the model ie all up weight and engine size etc..and even 'failures' like running out of fuel or servo failures. The trick is to get to a certain skill level on the sim, then in real life just back off a bit to a level you are happy with...only bring in the advanced stuff when you got good height to recover should it go wrong. The sims saved me a LOT of time and money where I didnt have an instructor with the buddy lead system. I have taught people with the buddy system and its very rewarding to do. I havent flown in a very long time now, I tend to use just a slope soaring glider (quite enjoy the challenges of this) but would like to get a decent sim just to keep my skills up.
@robinwells88795 жыл бұрын
robraver. good suggestion, thanks. I do have a simulator and I kind of mastered it a while back but only in the cockpit view mode! I have even flown the real things but I fear that my brain is wired somewhat differently from you guys. I really struggle with the spatial orientation bit of me relative to the plane. I have put in some hours now with a drone and I am better with hand eye coordination so I have ordered one of these little beauties and I aim to complete a circuit to break my record! I promise I won't hold it against you if it goes badly!😆 However, if you don't hear from me again then please don't ask!!!
@robinwells88795 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely right Dom! Mine arrived today and I flew it solidly for ten minutes from full to a flat battery and it is a piece of cake. I can't believe how clever it is. I even did several stall turns and intentionally for a change! Up to now I have never done a complete straight and level circuit! Even if I fluff it I only have to let go of the controls and it recovers. Can't thank you enough.

@@Brian-1948 no, on mine, there's a small plastic "joiner" that accepts the screw that goes through the prop, and mounts to the shaft of the motor. (I loved my Great Planes Spit) Fitting engines and Robarts retracts....The planes didn't have cameras, unless you used a single shot disposable linked to a servo and that unused channel to snap a picture. Maybe, just maybe you might see something! lol. Most of the fun was BUILDING the plane. Last time I looked at Tower or Hobby Town you can't even buy the old balsa planes. It's all ARF or RTF or a drone. It's all prebuilt Styrofoam with wi-fi and bluetooth that takes no talent to build or fly. Oh well....I guess thats what RC is now.

@@wannahockaloogiewannahocka1040 Yep. Boeing are going flat out to produce enough 787s for all the local "Learn to Fly" operators.

Its a shame that many Chinees companies won't ship to the UK any more. I think its to do with the batteries. You can get this at aliexpress for £27.00, but they also won't ship to the UK. "Shame"

@FooBar Maximus you've obviously been out of the hobby for far too long. You can get a decent, proper plane that can handle aerobatics and wind for a couple hundred bucks.

Cannot be flown with a trainer system, master/slave transmitters. First time flying, you'll break it.

I learned on my own with 1/2 A scaled over powered P-51 i built myself.
@edwardcase5 жыл бұрын
What I'm driving at is that the transmitter is proprietary as well as the receiver. You cannot attach a cord to a slave transmitter. If a newcomer has no idea what the controls do, it can be frustrating without an instructor. It's fine for first timers, if all they do is fly 'away' and not turn back into the pilot. The left ight is reversed when the plane faces you.
@hopsta56285 жыл бұрын
@@edwardcase same with every remote control car, plane, tank, helicopter, boat etc: going by your logic all of those things would need a buddy system because learners are too stupid/inept to understand the concept of the steering being reversed and they would need to be trained.

@@edwardcase hi.. these are so slow and are so light that you can't do much damage in a crash. No need for dual controls, particularly useful for those starting out on their own.
