Same here. I built free flight Keil Kraft gliders (Soarer Baby) which went well but a drag having to retrieve. Then control line Keil Kraft Ranger which I took to school model airplane club. Master flew it well and I crashed it. So depressed so never built another. Would love to try an r/c aircraft so watching this is fun. This quite small - do you think a larger wingspan eg 3-4 feet would give more progression ie slower

Personally, with numerous Micros in my “hanger” I never fly off grass with landing gear. Wheels obviously too small to negotiate any length of grass or divots etc. always hand launch and belly land for zero damage unless flying off smooth bitumen or concrete. Micros are awesome fun and except for my much loved, much flown 1.5m ME-109 are just about all I fly these days with very limited access to ever closing down large scale flying fields (urban developments causing noise complaints about facilities that existed well before they did and Councils only too pleased to take action against long established model flying clubs).

@theoztreecrasher26475 ай бұрын
Sorry, but not too many people would agree with you there. The re-branded Esky EYAS (Eagles) which is sold as the Aeroscout by Horizon Hobby IS quite a good plane for pilots with some little experience. (2nd or 3rd plane.) But the Mini Aeroscout is recognized as a very poor plane for beginners - not anywhere near the same quality as the larger 1.1m plane. These are a possible choice as an absolute starter plane for beginners but are only a second choice behind the Volantex versions. (V761-4 Sport Cub 500) You would only choose this if the price was quite a bit less than the Sport Cub.

Based on this video, I bought one of these Mini 450 Xcub planes for my grandson. It cost £50, but with delivery from Ali Express and VAT, it came to just over £70. When static testing it out of the box, it struck me how little the control surfaces moved - barely perceptible - but I figured that it had been factory tested, and it's very light, so this must be enough for what it needs to do. Also - I had seen this video, where it appears to have the authority it needs. My grandson practised on a PC-based simulator with a USB controller that looks just like a RC transmitter, and as he was showing good competence, we went out to fly the model today. It was calm, and we chose a field that was edged with woods, but far enough away so as not to be an obstacle. There was no suitable runway, so we put it in Beginner mode, and I threw the model and my grandson had the controls. The Xcub flew in a huge curve, but he could not make that curve any tighter. He should have killed power, but when you're doing something for the first time, your mind doesn't respond well to an emergency, so it went behind the trees, and we found it in a patch of gause - with no propeller. I went back there with a pair of seceteurs to cut the gause away, but a black propelled in the leaf-litter is not easy to see, and I didn't find it. I have looked online, and see 4 propellers for £35 - Holy Moly - that's more than half the price of the plane. There was a spare in the kit - but we only have one propeller now. There are other propellers much cheaper, but I don't know the pitch of this one, so although the others have a 4-digit spec printed inn the plasti (diameter and pitch, I suspect), I don't know if these are a sutable replacement or not These little plastic propellers must be turned out for barely more than pennies! Can you give any advice for where to get them at a sensible price? I'm going to have to get at the servos now as well, to work out why they move the control surfaces so little - so I hope I don't have to break anything to get at them.
@DownhillAllTheWay2 ай бұрын
The black cover over the top of the cockpit is held on by double-sided tape and can be got off with a bit of effort. The servo for the ailerons has a cross-piece on top of it to control both ailerons, but the wires that connect to the aileron horns were poorly adjusted, effectively bending them and making them drag against the holes where they go through the fuselage. I re-bent them so that doesn't happen any more, and it seems to me that the cross-piece on the servo moves more than it did before, but it still doesn't look enough to me. The servo is self-centering, and feels very stiff to move away from that position by hand with power off. I'll try it again when the weather permits.

Eh, yes but then you have to spend hundreds of dollars on everything and assemble it. Emphasis here is on 'try' and not 'learn'.

Bet you the Mehican Cartels have fleet of these flying in their products daily. They probably have kids on payroll whose only job is to fly drones and RC planes daily.

It’s too fast for an absolute beginner. It’s too temperamental for a beginner. I love all Aircraft,they are my passion.And thought that maybe I can get something out of this hobby by getting into RC models. But if this is the best beginners aircraft model! Then it’s not for me.

We'll have to disagree then. If folks want to "try" out RC flying they will want everything in the box, and for it to be resilient/durable and relatively cheap. I'll fly this again on a calm/zero wind day since so many aren't taking the conditions on that day into account. 🙄

I started with an Eachine Spitfire. Fast and invisible against the trees but easy to fly, just quick. Keep it in the novice setting and learn to fly it then progress. The gyro is excellent at sorting out your mistakes. So I disagree with your opinion. As It is slower, It would make a great beginners plane.
