so, are there any aftermarket batteries that are actually an upgrade over Dyson OEM ones? Seems like that there might be a market there. Too many decent quality products these days are hampered by inferior battery.
@HouseOfVacuums4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! I completely agree, there is a market there. Eventually I'll dissect one of the batteries that claims to have name brand cells... it doesn't really mean they have balanced charging figured out though.

@@HouseOfVacuums Thanks, looking forward to it then :) . For me, even if there is a superior battery with more capacity would be a reason to to buy it if nothing than out of curiosity. It would be nice if at least some serious DIY-er would take the challenge to 3D print SWAPPABLE battery housing in which one could put superior battery and electronics. I would totally go for it :)

@@TheVlad987, I have some first generation rechargeable power tools made in Switzerland designed to run off 12 & 24v NiCd batteries. I’ve given up on finding oem replacements due to the ridiculous cost. Instead I carry either 1 or 2 Yuasa motorcycle batteries depending on whether I need a 12 or 24v power supply. Unfortunately, I was unable to get a Yuasa battery which was made in Japan, however, at least it was a Taiwanese made one. They cost double the Chinese batteries but hopefully they’ll last twice as long.

Thanks for the comment! I never used it. I'm sure it would have operated fine as all the cells were in good shape. I more so wanted to see what kind of quality of construction you could expect from the lowest priced V6 battery on Amazon.

I'm surprised noone has 3d printed some sort of mount to hold the likes of a DeWalt or Makita power tool battery. Unsure on the Makita but I know the DeWalt battery maintenance is part of the actual tool and not built into the battery so a DeWalt mightn't be the best choice.
@HouseOfVacuums4 жыл бұрын
It's an interesting thought and it might be fun to try and frankenstein something like that. The main issue that would need overcome is the voltage differences. The Dyson has 6 18650s with a nominal voltage of 3.6V for a total of 21.6V. Power tools that are rated at 20V to not use nominal voltage, but maximum charged voltage as a way to make them look better on paper. So a 20V power tool battery has a nominal voltage in the 18V range. I think that would be the main hurdle.
@rodgerq4 жыл бұрын
@@HouseOfVacuums sneaky snarky DeWalt. Here in the UK they are badged as 18. Could just fire on a 54v flexvolt lol

Finally a video of somebody disassembling one of those batteries, buuuut... you didn't even checkt the claimed capacity (or just even the voltage for any reason), I am a somewhat dissapointed. Note to yourself... if you plan on making technical videos then do some measuring. Have a nice day.
@HouseOfVacuums4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! I appreciate the feedback. I wasn't really looking to create a technical video, I simply wanted to see if it used safe cells. Since it used mystery cells with no data sheet that I could find, it isn't what I would consider safe. So in my opinion it doesn't really matter what the capacity is because no one should buy this particular battery pack. Hope that helps. Thanks again!

Good vid! Glad I watched before I bought one. Before I found out that they have replacement packs, [and bcuz I’m into R/C & DIY] I was considering buying some new 18650 cells to swap out in the original pack. I haven’t checked the price of an OEM Dyson pack but ....good 18650 cells are not cheap! A side note. I saw an article recently about the restricted selling of the ‘no name’ batteries which I’m glad they’ve done. Not only is it a waste of money but also obviously dangerous!

Unfortunately I didn't. I was anticipating being able to look up the spec of the cells once into the battery pack, but as you saw they were super obscure. Next time!

The overcharge protection is the main problem on this unit. I just setup a notification timer on my phone to disconnect the power adapter and follow the 40-80% rule to preserve the life of lithium-ion battery.
@HouseOfVacuums4 жыл бұрын
Agreed, balanced charging and over-charging protection are probably lacking in this unit. I also really don't like that we can't find the maximum discharge current specs for these cells. Over-discharging during use is also a good way to ruin cells. If I get a bad replacement battery in I'll take it apart to determine if the issue is caused by a bad cell or by a bad PCB.

This video popped up in my suggested videos. I'd just changed my Dyson DC59 battery for a cheap one off ebay after it slowly became less efficient. I have a charging dock which I just tend to leave it in until I'm ready to use it, which is about every other day on average. With the new battery, the light does switch off when the charging is complete. Do you think that it's enough to be satisfied its unlikely to blow up? I do worry because I keep it in a cupboard where we store all our coats.
@HouseOfVacuums4 жыл бұрын
While all lithium ion cell have the potential to be dangerous, if the light is turning off after it is charged and the battery is not getting hot, there do not appear to be any warning signs. I would recommend moving the charging station out of a isolated, enclosed area just to be safe. Thanks!

It certainly would have been a better option than the captive batteries, that is for sure. The Dyson sticks had captive batteries from the V6 through the early V11s. However, current V11s have now FINALLY introduced quick-swap battery packs. I think Dyson must have heard a lot of feedback about it. Thanks for watching and commenting!

question is if Dyson put good battery in the vaccum , then we do not need buy these cheap low quality ones. I have dyson for 5years, great unit, battery is the pain in the ass,even the original ones
@HouseOfVacuums4 жыл бұрын
The unfortunate truth is that batteries just give more points of failure. I will say, some industries like power tools have become very good at manufacturing reliable lithium ion battery packs. This is due to both cell selection and more advanced control boards and balanced charging. Vacuum manufacturers have a ways to go to get to this level.

Thanks for watching and commenting! This may sound like semantics, but my definition of good for this video wasn't really whether the battery worked, because I'm sure it did, but rather if it was a safe option. The fact that it uses no-name cells with no available data sheet disqualifies it from consideration. That being said, I am in the process of readdressing the cheap V6 battery question in a new video with extensive testing of multiple models. This was an early video for our channel, this next one will be improved. In the meantime, this original video is our second most viewed despite it's shortcomings. Stay tuned for the next video.
