I just showed this to my occupational therapist and we agreed it's off the hook! I'm working hard on learning to walk again after my stroke, but if I was going to be confined to a wheelchair long term I would want one of these desperately. I intend to walk, not roll out of this rehabilitation center. I need to show you the modified vice device my friend made so I can crochet one handed. It has revolutionized my post-stroke paralyzed life to be able to do some crafting again. I live to make things, so losing use of my dominant hand was terrible beyond words. I have started drawing some with my right hand, but most crafts need both hands. I attempted an origami butterfly with one hand, but I got stuck on the details. The vice is great to hold the crochet hook still, but it has some limitations I will need to get used to. It is as good as it can be short of an actual hand. I appreciate it 100000 percent. It is wonderful. I wish I knew how to show you.

I’m a wheelchair user based in the UK. My pet peeve is the cost of wheelchairs so you have no idea how impressed that you have created this product and bought it to market. As a child I would have given anything to have had a device like this (I’m now 48). I hope that this is the massive success that it truly deserves to be. If you ever consider selling in the uk I know this would be a huge hit. I hope there is comes to the UK market, if it does I would be honoured to be involved in some way. Thank you for making this. KMX makes recumbent pedal tricycles for kids and AFIK they sell by mail to anywhere. Would still an e-bike kit and diy foot rest to approximate the Kid rig.
@peterdorrie3833 Жыл бұрын
Depending on how comfortable you feel handling tools and spending a many hours online researching parts, this isn't that hard to build yourself. I've recently jumped into the deep end, bought a welder and built a cargo bike to transport my son to school without any prior experience in fabrication/bike construction. (my son has a mental and physical disability and the other option would have been the car, which is just stupid on days that have tolerable weather. "Real" cargo bikes are stupid expensive). The "Rig" looks like a simple frame made from square mild steel tubing, a standard e-bike hub motor, battery and control system, as well as assorted bike parts. The most complicated part to replicate is probably the steering mechanism. Not to take anything away from Jerry/Cambry for creating this - the idea is brilliant and the executing looks fantastic - but you yourself or a friend with the appetite to get into this could probably build this or something similar at about the same cost, including basic welding equipment, not counting labour. And feeling comfortable with welding opens up many new ways to build/fix things.
@nexusyang4832 Жыл бұрын
If Zack is reading this, maybe instead of selling it fully assembled, it's possible to ship all the parts disassembled and be assembled by the end-user or a local bike shop that could help them put it together? It could possibly lower the cost of manufacture as there isn't a full on assembly cost but the cost to package the parts and to ship it. Maybe it could be something to keep in mind.

For future development it might be an idea to have almost a 'child lock' on the power output settings, so a parent has the ability to lock it in to the lower setting should they want to for safety reasons like the child has balance issues (or thinks they're Evil Kinevil) Would also look into fitting brake levers from a children's bike as opposed to an adults one, noticing in the video when braking he had to take his hands off the bars to get over them and squeeze wouldn't add any cost but could allow a little bit more control for the smaller hands.. keep up the good work guys!

Zack & Cambrie, thank you for all you do. I saw the Not-a-Wheelchair you did for Cambrie and now the one for children. I was thinking of a name for it since you did not have a name and then I see you shortened it to Rig. I was thing of "Jerry Rig". I think the phase "Jerry Rig" comes from the early days of the Ford Model T. Each of the cars came with a very limited tool bag. In the bag was a spark plug wrench, screwdriver and pliers. You were required to get your own bailing wire. With that bag of tools and some bailing wire you could fix just about anything that went wrong with the car. You could, at least, Jerry Rig it until you could get it to a mechanic. This was also where the term, "Screwdriver and Plier Boys" came from. I am retired now at sixty-eight years old. I started in the electrical field by attending VoTech school, Industrial and Residential wiring in 1973. In 1975 I joined the Navy as an electrician. I served on USS Ranger CV-61, aircraft carrier, in Subic Bay Philippians. I excelled in the Navy because I was an "Outside the Box" thinker. Although my job was to fix things that broke, I would investigate the reason something failed and modify the design so that I did not happen again. After getting out of the Navy in 1980, I pursued work in field service for nearly twenty years. Around 2000 I gave up field service for engineering design, a desk job with better pay and benefits. Last year I retired from a major utility company with the title of "Principal Protection & Controls Designer for Transmission Substation Systems. I would like to offer my skills to review both units here in Tulsa. We would need to find a facility that would allow me access to spend time going thru the controls. Preferably a facility that then, after the review could benefit from the donation of them to the community. They would also be helpful in my review allowing me to work with people that would need the Rigs. The only thing I would ask for my time would be the joy of being a part of this donation to the local community. Ron Ross Tulsa Oklahoma 8-7-2024, I have limited mobility at the current time, new right knee.

I have watched Jerry for years now seen his whole relationship grow with Cambri. I have also followed very close with the entire Not a Wheelchair project. And it is absolutely amazing everything you guys have done and what you will continue to do. Great job to both of you and your whole crew now.

I’d suggest using the same throttle configuration as that of the normal rig as something like the one on the kid rig could potentially cause wrist injuries and also makes it harder for the user to reach the brakes.I do really appreciate that you guys are keeping it affordable,easily repairable and accessible to the masses

I never really donate unless I'm sure the money will go to the right people. I've been watching your videos for years Jerry. I feel like I can trust you and felt that this is as good a cause as any so I donated. I hope my small donation will help bring that kind of cheer to another person. Thank you for doing what you do!

It's typically the kind of video I wouldn't watch if it was a random one on KZbin, but since you do it on you own simple way with a lot of enthusiasm it's always a big pleasure to watch it! Thanks from a French living in Korea!

Hi! I am someone who requires a wheelchair for long distances (not as long as you would think, walmart trips, trick or treat, etc) because of my back, while i cannot afford these rigs, i love that you make them as cheap as possible, and i love that you are helping those who would otherwise not get to experience the outdoors
