As a proud Valkyrie Interstate owner, I would suggest getting the Touring model, & stripping it down to a naked Valkyrie. That way you still get the bigger gas tank. The smaller tank leaves you with only about 150 mile range.

That Valkyrie Interstate is one of the best touring motorcycles ever made. Bulletproof Goldwing motor with a batwing. Add the 6 into 6 cobra drags and and you have a real Street glide killer.

I bought a new R18B at the end of 22 and have racked up right around 13k miles on it. I love it for many of the same reasons mentioned. Especially for just how completely different it is from everything else. I never have to worry about walking out and not spotting my bike in the sea of whatever glides. Mine has the option 719 galaxy dust metallic which is so cool and freaking beautiful! It's not without some tragic shortcomings in the engineering and design though. That fun rumble they designed to leave in the engine turns into an annoyingly numbing buzz at 3k rpm, which is 80mph in 6th. Highway cruising speed buzzes like an old 70s inline 4. Plus the fairing disrupts and misguides the air so poorly. Terrible buffeting from above and below the fairing. Blasting down the highway my helmet gets rattled so much, reading road signs can be difficult. Forget about hearing that powerful Marshall sound system at anything above 30mph. I do still like the bike. Its great fun to rip around on and gets a lot of compliments/interest, but for me it doesn't make up for how bad it is for touring. Which is what it is supposed to have been built for doing.

I have a 99 Valkyrie interstate, they are absolutely rowdy. The 6 into 6 cobra is still available, I just bought one a few months ago. The difference from the goldwing other than the 6 carbs is as you thought, a different cam and the interstate has different timing than the standard or tourer models. What’s crazy is it actually has more power with the stock exhaust but doesn’t sound anywhere near as good.

About 10 years ago I got invited on a Harley ride with my valk my buddy on a stratoliner. Off the bat the valk made the Harley's look small. It got a lot of attention..specially the 6 shooter exhaust. We hit the road and I continually smoked even the built Harley's. The stratoliner was the only bike that could remotely hang. The disadvantage the Harley guys snickering every time we needed fuel. The strat drank like a fish too.

That Valkyrie exhaust is ... different... SIX shotgun pipes! I guess that wouldn't be shotgun pipes, but more like Pepperbox pipes, like those old pepperbox derringers with 5 or 6 barrels. It sounds really weird idling, but man, it RIPS when you twist it! Idling, it sounds like bubbles should be coming out the pipes :)

I have Aprilia 1200 and Harley Street Glide currently. On a long trip, the harley Vtwin configuration is so conducive to long travel by having so much foot space to change the position and make long trips so much easier. I have had many bikes, V twin configuration is my favorite. I don't like those two cylinders sticking where my feet are. Last year I made a trip from Seattle to La in one shot. Breeze on the Harley. I never thought I would like Harleys this much.

Yo that Valkyrie was shredding haha! Awesome! I like Indian as well, they're cool bikes. Next to Harley's the BMW R18 is one I really started appreciating more over the years. They're less common over there and people are genuinely interested and intrigued by those bikes. I've seen other KZbinrs owning one, or riding on or a long term loan and it had the that effect on the people. I also appreciated them more around that time.

Wow, three first gen Valkyries for sale in Sweden rn and they're $6000, $6500 and $7800 (most expensive one at a dealer) They were way more rare here, to be fair =) I'm stoked i got my 2005 BMW R1200ST for $2800 in december. Pretty rare bike and buying it in the middle of swedish winter was a good move. It just passed inspection (mandatory here in the people's republic of Swedistan) with flying colors so it's good for two years. My first ever ride on it was on my 40th birthday on 4/16, glad i like bike! A BMW boxer with less than 37.000 miles should last me a lifetime.

@@chadpunte1731 to summarize what shade tree said, there hasn’t been a bike like this is a long while. It’s thinking outside the box and they built the motor first and designed the chassis around it using cues from their past. Check out the development of this bike in their KZbin channel. I like it because it’s unique and I just like boxer motors and BMW bikes. I get there not everyone’s cup of tea, but you can’t compare any other cruiser to this one. It’s not just the next V twin.
