This is the Daihatsu Sirion. I bought it for my sister about a year ago as a first car, and it's been running flawlessly ever since. Today we took it out for a review.

Just to let you know! I am now the proud owner of this exact car! It still runs amazing! And the pull off is still as punchy, which is very surprising xD. I do also regularly get it up to 70 on the dual carriageway quite quickly, but it does really struggle with the hill. It is also my first car, and so far I'm finding it perfect! Also the camera does the colour no justice, it's definitely more a custard yellow then the tinge of green it shows.

You can't go wrong with a japanese car. If I had to buy a Sirion it would be a silver one though, with manual gearbox and the 1.3L engine. That car was really snappy and did't look so ridiculus back then :)

I actually have a silver 2007 sirion 1.3 5 speed and...well i paid 1300 for it and i've put 30.000km on it in 9 months and the only thing it needed was new brakepads and a battery and it passed the tüv easily, and it gets 5l/100km....it is rather ugly tho

This engine is also in the Toyota aygo. I can tell you, it's unbreakable if taken good care of. Extremely reliable and easy to maintain.

Same engine is in the Citroen C1 and Peugeot 107. Brilliant engine, gets smoother the higher you rev it.

but version for aygo and other cars is more powerfull, 68 instead of 54 hp also 5 speed manual is much quicker than a 4 speed automatic, because with 4 speed the gears are very long 60 km/h for 1st and 100km/h for 2nd, way too long for such a small and poor torque engine

Gears in the original Aygo, C1 and 107 (2005 - 2014) 5 speed manual are very long also - 1st - 5mph per 1000 revs ( 56 km/h at 7000 rpm ) 2nd- 9mph per 1000 revs ( 100 km/h at 7000 rpm ) 3rd- 13mph per 1000 revs ( 145 km/h at 7000 rpm ) 4th- 17mph per 1000 revs ( 163km/h at 6000 rpm ) 5th- 21mph per 1000 revs ( overdrive gear ratio only )

I think it is a really nice car. Climate control, automatic mirrors, automatic gear box and a probably very reliable engine. If you just want to go from A to B without paying too much and impressing anyone it is a good car.

Used cars are rather cheap in the UK. You can always find a bargain. I think the large volume of ex-company cars helps this. Where I live (France) it's not really worth the risk buying used at all.

And you probably love it. I know i love my 2001 3-door silver ibiza 6k2. SDI diesel engine no big electronics, no turbo, basically a tractor engine (they are actually used for naval and agro, source: wiki) 4liter consumption per 100km. True city car truly reliable, cheap economical.. etc. These are the true future proof cars. I was thinking getting something "better" but better is relative. No new car will ever beat my ibiza when it comes to run costs.

the steering vibration at 60miles may be due to unbalanced wheels, take it to a wheel alignment place and get the wheels balanced may get better, and the tyres will have a longer life too.

I learned to drive in a Diahatsu Charade(previous model), many years ago. It was a very reliable and cool car, still see them around today.

For that money (in Wester Euro coutries) you can also buy a Daihatsu Cuore with the same engine. The Cuore looks better, weight even less and is a bit faster. You also kan buy a Starlet, Clio, Saxo, 106, Corsa b, Polo n6 and even a Twingo for that money. So maybe it's reliable, but most of these small hatchbacks are. You have too do a review to find out with small hatch is the best. Would be fun!

For me it's a toss up between the Fiesta mk4/5 and the Saxo vtr 1.6 (unfortently the 1.6 engine and boy racer rep of the Saxo would make insurance stupid expensive for a young driver). An honorable mention goes out to the old Nissan Micra those are pretty good and dead reliable, just stay away from the ugly 'newer' one that had the stupid headlights and big bubble body those are shit to drive and unreliable.

Wet Lettuce, The Citroen Saxo 1.6 VTS and Ford Fiesta mk4 are popular hatchbacks and look pretty clean. In the Netherlands they are both still very cheap, only many suffer from rust due to the humid climate. Especially the Ford at the wheel ages. The best versions before the face lift are the 1.4 zetec and the 1.3 16v with 75hp. With the face lift they made a 105 hp strong 1.6. Well done Ford, but the Saxo VTS 1.6 does better with 118hp. I personally enjoy 90s more and I'm not a fan of many 00's designs. The mk5 fiesta is not a banger anymore and only the diesels are really improved. Only the Fiesta ST with the 2.0 16v valve engine from the Mondeo are a lot of fun, but those are much more expensive than a Mk4 or Saxo. I would go for a 1.6 Saxo, peugeot or mk4 fiesta. It's just a case of looks really. The Peugeot 1.6 16v gti has the same engine as the Saxo. Renault Clio 1.6 16v is also a good car by the way!

Try a Fiat 600 if you can find one, especially the 1.1L version, 55 hp for 735kg, which is not bad at all. Top speed 100 mph and does about 16 km/l when drove quite fast. I love that wheeled tin can

i'm disappointed about how we didn't get the sirion here in the states. daihatsu pulled out in the early 90s, only giving us the Rocky and Charade. Of course, it probably couldn't keep up with the traffic we have here, but I think it still has some appeal. (I like old econoboxes too. Thats probably why I have this stance lol)

In my everyday life, I use a 2017 Hyundai i10, it has 66CV, 1.0L, 3 cylinders engine with a four speeds gearbox... On the paper they are quite similar (0-100 Km/h in 15s) ...

+N Clunk I have that car and I'd much rather have a 106, my mate has a 1.1 and it just feels sooo much more revy and pulls much nicer through all the gears. The polo just feels sluggish and heavy to me, pretty nice going round corners but the 106 is the fucking king of corners so it wins on that too

There is no comparison dude, you must have a shitty polo because mine accelerates faster than some BMWs. The Peugeot 106 was dangerously slow and the clutch bite was ridiculously high, I learnt and passed my test in it, I really did love it to bits but I would never go back to it. You can really tell the Polo is German made, the Peugeot felt flimsy compared. My next car will probably be a VW Golf lol
