Love the Cheetah, always been one of my all time favourite aircraft, back in 88 and 89 I had the privilege of being able to watch them fly nearly on a daily basis from what was then AFB Pietersburg.

On a shoestring budget, using ageing air-frames South Africa build a multi-role fighter with 4th gen capabilities that could hold it's own mostly against the much newer and advanced Soviet planes. Not the best, but good enough with what was available and what budget was available. Amazing that they are still in operation in some places.

Beautiful aircraft, was privileged to fly back seat in a Cheetah D as part of the ground crew during an ACM camp at AFB Langebaan back in the late '80. Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦.

Ive always thought it a shame the SAAF didn't updgrade its F1 fleet in a similar fashion. Would have produced a very capable aircraft.

Nice bird. Each figther costs 35 million dollars without weapon. It is an IAI Nammer. For the same price you had got a mirage 2000 with weapon.
@semiedgv3 жыл бұрын
Only the Reconnaissance version didn't get weapons. And that wasn't even put into production. Also I don't know where you're getting that price because it's definitely not correct. Edit: It's based on the Kfir not the Nammer.

I call bull..the cheetah couldn't fly to from cape to jozi without fueling even if it wanted to the engine was under powered maintanance was a nightmare those mirages had a poor fuel efficiency and no data link with other platforms whatsoever. The gripens are way way more advanced than those planes.
