Richard Ashcroft recorded some amazing work. I really lived for some of his early solo stuff, "On a Beach", "The Lovers", and things he recorded with his band and artists like this. His voice is so mellow and relaxes me.

I love how The Chemical Brothers tried to tell a story with the video to their songs. Always get goosebumps the moment the girl is suddenly surrounded by people dancing around her just after a house almost fell on top of her and Richard singing "My heart and soul, they are free" combined with the elevated music. This is pure art.

its quite simple, soul is in the ether , the waters above, where time and corruption dont exist, once u are bornt, u are channeld through the astral world (stars , which are simple luminaries ) and once u incarnate you see alll the stars above, which were souls, like you , before encarnating into the material world In order to understand this, u have to have full knowledge of the flat earth cosmic view, if ure nasa pro u absolutely have no right in understanding this

Transcendental. +Christoss007 Haha, it was exactly the same with me! When I first saw the video I wanted to know who she was but there was no info anywhere. I remember going through tons of KZbin comments seeing if anyone had mentioned it earlier. Right at the bottom someone had posted her name but even then there was only a bit of info elsewhere about her as she'd not acted in anything else. That's actually why I posted her name a couple of months ago, so that other people may be saved the effort of trawling through it all, because I'm so good and selfless. But you're right, information comes more and more easily now. There's even a Wikipedia page about this video! No mention of who plays the dark haired girl though. Probably the director's cousin or something.

“My heart and my soul- they are free.” I was 15 when this came out. I remember seeing it on MTV2 after school. My boyfriend at the time was really into hallucinogenics, but I preferred to stay clean as a whistle, for no other reason than I was too scared to experience my brain in an altered state. However, when I saw this, despite it being a love song to lysurgic acid, I vividly remember telling myself that one day, when I’m ready, I must experience 🍄’s. 16 years later, I tried it, and my heart and my soul? They are finally free. I’m now a mini-cosmonaut at 36 as I was a bit of a late bloomer, but I can’t stress enough the psychological and spiritual benefits of most hallucinogens, namely psilocybin and LSD. Ahead of their time…this song and video are timelessly unforgettable. ❤️ Love and light to anybody who read this way too long anecdotal KZbin comment, LOL

I've always been fascinated by synaesthesia and I *love* this era of their music videos for testing the bridge between sound and vision. Some examples are obvious (Star Guitar) or the flashing jellyfish in this video. But some are beautifully for their subtlety, eg the flock of birds at 2:32 is definitely synced to the white noise pulses in the audio. Maybe I'm just wired a bit wrong, but it's very satisfying :)

I love this song, bring back great memories! I love the girl realization of the "acid test", when she understands she is tripping. That happens suddenly when the house wall fell over her, like a bonk in her head - the sun is the club lights, the beach wooden stakes are her fingers, the smoke coming from her hands is just the dry ice smoke effect, the little girl in red running is just her friend dancing in front of her, and the underwater sensation is probably from her vomiting in the bathroom toilet, which is the big whale mouth.

Que temazoooo y que video, que se que se vayan a la mierda los videoclips de ahora, esto es algo a lo que ninguno de los cantantes d hoy se merece hacerle.

One of the absolutely best Chems, and songs itself ever, so packed with emotions, also as a polish dude i'm proud of sampling the Czesław Niemen's - Pielgrzym

I bequeath that when I die, this song will be played at the funeral, so that everyone knows that our life is just “The Test”

Belly of the whale, chaos, waves breaking front of horizons, stepping through the devil's door. Jordan Peterson could do a three hour lecture on this 😂 Top notch stuff.

the test is favorite track from "come with us" and as a kid I used to repeat this song over and over again on my old Walkman... Those were the days....

Came back to the Chemicals tonight. Watched some 90s classics on full volume. Started to cry... they are all so great... immersive, epic psychedelic. Incredible.

Man i remember being 12 years old and catching this video on MTV was sooo good, it was a turning point in what you could acomplish with a video clip. And The Chemical Brothers were always so good doing videos! Of course first of all its an epic song!!

What I love about this (and many Chemical Bros videos) is the _synaesthesia:_ the video is subtly, but perfectly in sync with the audio. Some examples: notice the video at 2:16, she not only lands on the ground precisely on the drum beat, but the video pulses as if shaken by her weight. There's the jellyfish at 1:35 glowing in time with the music. At 5:18, the video is reversed, reinforcing the song's reverse audio effect at precisely that moment. I can't count how many perfect pairings there are in this video, but maybe with other people's help, we can find them all. Reply below.

@@manujulia5949 Yes, I don't know what to call it, but yes! 3:59 The Buster Keaton house facade with the phased white noise, landing perfectly around our unfazed protaganist, as the bass drum booms and the chorus comes in.

I will never forget the emotion I felt the first I saw that whale swim past (10+ yrs? ago)
halcyon days, the music and the drugs taking you to somewhere else other than the dancefloor you were standing on. An escape from the where you where at the that moment. Fucking love this band, forever in my heart.
