You can just get an electric coffee siphon, which eliminates a lot of the work and maintains the time and temperature for you. I make coffee with it every morning. It's faster. I push the button and walk away and come back a few minutes later to hot coffee.

I lower it too much and the water drops. Need to just experiment with water. Other problem when it boils the thing up top goes out of place. Must need to lower it enough to not pop out of place but not have the water drop for 45 seconds. My heater is strong and keeps going off when I lower. Difficult to get that perfect lower balance for the top and bottom.

I use mine daily and love it. They make very good coffee. But I'm used to working with it and use a finer ground. A lot of the critics are more down to user error, or simply that the reviewers are unfamiliar to the concept and only used it a few times. Or just being pretentious and a bit "extra". Live with it for six months. Make friends with it. Find the best coffee and grind for it. Then make a review.

No. Syphons produce a very clean cup

Depends. They can be used with either metal filters or cloth filters and results will differ. Cloth will deliver a very clean cup.

The principle is that of a vacuum, not a siphon.

Well, positive pressure is a whole different thing and increases the temperature and the extraction of some (undesirable) compounds

not exactly tastier. but siphon is capable for a slightly acidic and bitter (both in a good way, largely depends on the bean), rich aroma and surprisingly clean and brisk texture.

The vacuum method is over a century old. By comparison, the AeroPress is the gimmick. I prefer the vacuum method, with a glass filter.
