It wasn't totally about revenge. It was mostly about them fearfully knowing that clearly nothing could protect Wanda from Earl so they unremorsefully made the choice to do what they had to do to save Wanda....Earl had to die. It's a well known fact that abused women are most likely to be killed by their abuser when they are trying to leave. This was very dark humor about celebrating that a abused woman and her loyal bestie made sure she didn't go down like that and the abuser who likely was going to kill her got the tables turned on him.
@Zyphorius2 жыл бұрын
You just described revenge. It’s not a dirty word or concept. Revenge was morally correct in this situation

Mom scares my dad with the Cast Iron frying pan that she used on his head when he went to attack when he was drunk and knocked him out cold. The scary thing is that she dented the Damn Frying pan on his head. Those pans are not easy to dent if that tells you how hard she hit him.

A disclaimer on the albums' liner notes read: " The Dixie Chicks do not advocate premeditated murder, but do love getting even." in response to quite a bit of controversy that the song had generated. Of course, that would pale in comparison to the '03 backlash that followed their public comments about W. Bush & the Iraqi invasion. Turns out they were just ahead of their time. Their multiple Grammy award-winning song, " Not Ready To Make Nice" was thir response to that kerfuffle.

I love these reaction videos. You are one of the first, that got the "Looked all around and all she found was Earl" part of the video. The video was made to put attention on domestic violence. The man who played Earl wanted to do this video if it helped in stopping domestic violence Dennis Franz played a policeman on TV.

Loved your reaction! brilliant! When I was a kid, the guy next door used to beat his Wife. My Father and his friends, invited the man, down to the local Pub to celebrate my Dads birthday,not. Strange! he slipped and fell, and was in Hospital for 3weeks. I can remember my Father saying to me, that's what happens to Men who hit Women! Yes Dad, message recieved! Strange all went quiet after that! Your reaction, " Hell hath no fury like A Woman scorned " please to say, here in the UK, we have some Artists breaking the mold! Ren, his Band the Big Push, and a truly amazing Singer/ Performer called CHINCHILLA! If you loved this song, I think you'll love her songs, she wrote them, ' Fingers, Little Girl Gone, Fabulous, Elements.' to name a few. Certainly on the darker side, but still amazing! She incorporates that phrase into her song ' Fingers'. Put it this way, I for one, am not going to mess with Her! Seriously, she's AWESOME!

Mom knocked my dad out with a cast Iron Frying pan and DENTED the DAMN pan. I was a baby so this is what my mom told me. Dad had come home drunk and for some reason went after my mom only for him to get whacked with the frying pan and also hit the drunk friend that mom despised with passion. dad spent the night on the floor in front of the bathroom where mom just walked on him. to this day dad still doesn't know what came over him as he does not get that drunk nor is a violent person. He cut of contact with the friend he had and got better. he still has a beer but stays away from the really hard stuff. Mom told me if she had let that go on then who know what would have happened so she nipped it in the butt right then and there. Still have that pan and when dad made mom made all she had to do was make dinner in the pan for dad to get the picture, The man playing Earl in known for playing a Cop on NYPD BLUE. The Chicks asked him to play one of the cops but he asked to play Earl which they agreed, One of the cops was Natalie's then Husband.

3:16 if Earl was "the best" then what does that say about the rest of the men in that town? 4:08 To me it is more of the Dixie Chicks spreading awareness about DV and how in most cases extreme measures must be taken. The beat makes it light heart while still telling young women to get out of such relationships as fast as possible.

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. I'm not saying kill someone but a piece of paper (which is all a restraining order is) is very poor protection. You can get hurt or even killed before it can be reported that the person violated it. It seems to me that most of the time all it's good for is to give the police a good idea of where to start if you turn up dead
