@articulatedkat66083 жыл бұрын
Since you specifically brought it up, I wondered if you'd mind weighing in on something I've wondered (as someone who was definitely in their demo). And I promise, I'm not asking you to answer "on behalf of black people." I'm just looking for your personal opinion, from someone likely to have one on this topic. Would it bother you at all if they played songs like this, or Bishop Briggs' "White Flag," at protests or events that were about BLM or other issues specifically affecting black people? Or do you think it would be better to stick to similarly-themed songs by black artists, of which there are obviously plenty to choose from? Though, feel free to ignore this altogether if you don't want to deal with the snotty backlash to whatever your answer would be. :) I wish I had people in my life I could ask, but my issues of social isolation began well before Covid. I went from an isolated single mom to an isolated, disabled community college student to an isolated, disabled university student. And while I've made some great acquaintances in the last 10 years, making new friendships (of any demo) has been trickier. Which doubly sucks because my major is Communications in Public Policy and Advocacy, and about the only time I have a diverse group of people around me to discuss complex topics is in class. Regardless of whether or not you choose to respond, I hope you have a lovely day. :D

@@articulatedkat6608 These women have stood up for what is right for many years. Did you watch the video until the end? The song was written before the murder of George Floyd. They asked BLM if they could make a video to show their support and raise awareness of some of the injustices in the US. They have had death threats and been cancelled by many people for saying that their President was wrong. Their song "Goodbye Earl" is a powerful, yet humorous, depiction of domestic violence. Beyonce invited them to perform with her at the CMAs in 2016, much to the disgust of some in the audience (there were several walkouts). Watch the video in full and check out their history before taking a pop at three women who risked their careers and their lives for others.

@@michelleevans5531 Ah, yes. That old canard of an argument: "if you don't love our democracy bugger off and go somewhere else". Here's a quick reality check - one of the functions of a democracy, instead of a dictatorship, is freedom to criticise that democracy. Voting is that same ability to critique government; the voter is given the ability to choose a party they believe will do things better or, for example, will make your country great again (indicating that as it wasn't great before, said voters were quite happy to bad mouth the country, and vote for someone repeatedly badmouthing the country, when the other lot ran things). Many of the progress in America and Western Europe has been because of that criticism too - whether it is collective bargaining, one man one vote, universal suffrage, maternity pay, equal rights, free education, healthcare as a basic human right. So, really, if you want to uncritically worship your government perhaps you'd be better moving somewhere else? North Korea still go in for that and even have the reeducation camps and the death penalty for those who criticise the great leader.

@Rocc 2020 are you THAT stupid? Really? Because if you are, how the hell do you figure out how to feed yourself every day? It's damned easy to stand against racism. First, you SPEAK UP against it when you see it or hear it around you. Second, you watch your own actions and words... or, that might be first, instead. Anyway, third, speak to POC, learn how many things they must do every day to get safely through the day and into bed... (although that didn't save Breonna Taylor, as she was shot dead while asleep, after a no-knock warrant for someone else). Fourth, there are many helpful and informative books to read; one of the newest and best is 'How to be an Antiracist.' Fifth, get OUT there, with your mask and a sign, and JOIN in one or more of the many peaceful events - whichever ones are nearest you. Sixth, support local and state politicians that will work to correct the deep problems that racism has caused and is causing, right now. Seventh, speak out online against racism. Eighth, speak to your elected officials - ALL of them - and make sure they know you want THEM to be anti-racist, as well. Those are simply some (nowhere near all) of the things YOU can do to stand up to racism. Any further stupid questions?

As an old guy, I have always loved the Chicks. I must say that I was introduced to their sound by my daughter, when she was about 15 or 16. I went to three or four concerts with her, and she went to several others on her own. I thought their sheer musicianship was off the charts. Brilliant playing; terrific, complex arrangements; spot-on harmonies that were tight and "crunchy" and made my ears happy. I knew every word to every song, as their CDs were always in our home and cars. I never thought they were a publicity stunt -- just stellar musicians and singers. This smash song has brought all the memories of their talents rushing back to me, and I think this is THE protest song of our times. So poignant. Simple words, stunning playing. The conservatives want to act like cancel culture is a new thing done only by the librals. Cancel culture has always been a thing. The Chicks were victims in the early 2000's. They said something the conservatives didn't like and they were blacklisted from country radio. Ticket and album sales in America tanked. They burned their albums like they burned their nikes when Kapernik was signed. Had to go away for 15 years before coming back on a new label. Conservatives love to cancel people/businesses that don't align with their views.

@ Generally I don't reply to replies to anything I post on youtube, but your comment got me thinking. Just because racism is 'worst' by your standards elsewhere does not mean it is not affecting many in Americans or in my case Canadians, nor does it justify what is happening to people. If you think you have what you call 'freedom' because you live in the United States, I think you need to rethink what freedom means to you. Your country is run by corporations that see their citizens as cheap labor and buy your government at every turn they get. The freedom you are referring to that Americans have is only available to those that have money.

AWESOME! The Chicks, said they wrote March, March before G. Floyd was murdered but it was perfect for all the things that have been happening for far too many yrs and are happening now. The Chicks said they marched and how powerful it was. Their song and it's video, fits this time in history perfectly. I'm in my 60's. I was still young when the marches for Civil Rights were going on in the 60's, and the protests against the war in Vietnam were happening during the same period. While Robert "Bobby" Kennedy was running for President and when Martin Luther King, Jr. were trying to make the biggest impact for Civil rights, their assassinations happened in 1968. MLK, Jr died April 4, 1968 and Bobby Kennedy almost 2 mos to the day, later. His happened on June 5, 1968. I was 11 yrs old. In May, I told my best friend (who is African American) that I finally understood what she meant many yrs ago when we were talking about our sons, how she had to teach hers how he ALWAYS had to watch his back, and to watch what he said and did and to who. I told her how sorry I truly was that it took G. Floyd's murder for me to "finally get it." I truly thought I understood, I really did. I had to apologize for being so naive, because until May 25, 2020 I really didn't understand. The night I saw George Floyd begging for his life, and then murdered under the knee of a racist white cop, I really thought I understood hate and racism. When G. Floyd, a man who was just a few yrs older than my son, called out for his mother, I cried, a lot. Equality is coming, and I pray it will be very soon. Its long overdue. The Christ I believe in, is in Heaven, and probably saying "it's about time, kids!" MAKE YOUR VOTE COUNT in 2020, because those in D.C. right now, don't care. Like the Chicks said "use your VOICE" "use your VOTE." The people you put in office are the same ones that are going to make the CHANGE that needs to take place, a reality. It's long overdue! When we use our voices, that army of one, becomes a army of thousands upon thousands! Let's make MLK, Jr.s, "I Have a Dream" speech, become a reality! (On Aug 28, 2020, the 57th anniversary of MLK's, "I have a Dream" speech, there is suppose to be one of the biggest Marches on Washington, D.C. for Civil Rights happening. It will be awesome!) Lets make equal rights for all happen and while we're at it, try Peace out for a change. PS This song was released 1 mo to the day after Mr. Floyd's death. I pray he knows how his life and those who suffered and died like him, and those who fought for Equal Rights know how their lives really did matter. Somehow, I'd like to think they do ~

I remember in 2002 or 2003 they were under fire in the US for having an anti-war stance. Brands pulled their sponsorship from The Chicks but the ladies never stopped. They are among those hardcore country acts who grew a conscience. Rock 'n roll welcomed them. It's the place for rebels, after all. Long live, The Chicks. You may have changed your name but your honesty in your music stayed the same. I never forgot about your anti-war sentiments since I was a kid of 11. Too bad she ruined it by bailing out rioters who destroyed businesses that disabled people needed that didn’t have rioter insurance that won’t be rebuilt. Too bad the people who worked at those businesses lost their jobs because they didn’t have the money to rebuild or they moved out of those cities to locations that are safer for them.
