Did Pete Sinclair wear a wig and was he gay?

I think that he was known to be notoriously gay but I'm not sure about the wig. There was a rumor/joke going around about an anal sex aid event and Pete Sinclair many decades ago. True or not is undetermined. It was offered around many workplaces and pubs by many homophobes around that time. I guess the genre is similar to the joke about knowing when your garden has AIDS, when all of the pansies start dying.
