For some reason I watched 3 Children of the Corn movies this week and subjected myself to much pain and torture. From boring, to irritating, to confusing, to downright embarrassing, they took me on a roller coaster that is sure to leave a nasty psychological scar. But at long last, after so many weeks, here it is at last: My review of the Children of the Corn films.

Children of the Corn is a great premise - kids kill their parents and now it's Lord of the Flies with demons - but it's one of the those ideas that make you "okay, then what? How do you flesh that out. for an entire movie?" and the answer is "you don't." The original is a short story for a reason, it's not an idea you can stretch out for 90 minutes and actually make it interesting.

@@Skyjumperkidn-no? It’s a remake. The exact same characters follow pretty much the exact same chain of events as in the original story (or rather the original film). Would be pretty weird if Vicky and her husband decided to drive to Nebraska, ran over a child, encountered the Children of the Corn, die, and then an indiscriminate amount of time later, another couple who coincidentally share the exact same names as this one reenact pretty much the exact same chain of events (except for the fact that these ones *don‘t* die), don’t you think?

I read the actual short story. Vickie had suffered a miscarriage before the story starts so her husband takes her on a road trip through Nebraska. The kid at the beginning had his throat cut and was pushed out of the corn to walk a little way before expiring. The car clips him, not a full-blown rundown, and when they investigate, they realize the throat slit killed him before the car. Vickie gets her eyes gouged out and crucified while her husband is killed by He Who Walks Behind the Rows aka Randall Flagg aka Stephen King had an extended universe before Marvel

You know, the 2009 movie actually makes me appreciate the additions the 1985 one had? Like, you may find it annoying, but the conflict between Malachai and Isaac at least adds some life to otherwise prettyy one-note villains, and them taking in those kids would actually work better with the angry assholes from the 2009 version, with it as a metaphor for a couple using children as a way to save their marriage.

I only watched the first 2 children of the corn movies and Ive had enough. The second one left me confused with its explaination of chemical corn making children evil and the rc car kill scene. I am in shock how children of the corn 2 managed to get further sequels. The first one had pretty darn funny acting from that main evil kid who gets sacrificed. He says something along the lines of dont just sit there in a very dramatic overracted delivery which I found funny. Reminded me of eric cartman for some reason.

The explanations are weird for the latest remake. I will say though, there are some explanations as to why Eden is so twisted in the head. Her birth parents abused her pretty thoroughly in every way, something the preacher continued doing because he knew no one in the community cared because no one stepped in the first time around. It's why she saved him from the pit, she wanted to make him suffer. She then did the same to the dad because he wanted to take the corn away, the one place she would run to in order to escape the abuse. From there it gets even more convoluted.

A children of the corn proper movie would be the beginning of the end of the town with the kids slowly taking over until it’s too late for the adults to do something about it. With it sort of being a prequel to the original, ending with the kid running out of the corn field deemed the final “survivor” just to be ran over in the end

The 2009 film was on and I really only vividly remember the super uncomfortable sex scene. But, years later, anytime I’d mention the sex scene in Children of the Corn everyone looks at me like I’m crazy. Cause I guess a lot of people don’t really know about the 2009 remake. I started thinking it was some weird misplaced memory or something. And I had no real way of knowing if it actually happened or not. Thank you for confirming that I am in fact not crazy and that bizarre scene is real!

I tell them it's the most accurate depiction of Nebraska we have on screen, which a lot of other native Nebraskans ABSOLUTELY HATE! The original was the first horror movie I ever watched, I had to sneakily watch it while my mom thought I was asleep. I was 8 years old, and it's the movie began my lifelong love of horror. It has a special place in my heart just for that. If you were an 80's kid, movies just hit differently back then. Under today's lens, not all of them hold up, but at the time, they were amazing. And Isaac...holy crap. He captured the spirit of the movie perfectly. Also if you lived in the midwest, and were surrounded by corn like me, it also scared you on another level when you're like 8 and you're parents ask you to go check the mail at 10pm, and your mailbox is out by the road, and across the street is a f***ing corn field! It's not gonna work today, but damn did it work back then.

What you say about CotC (1984) is true, but I kinda love it right down to the theme song anyway. It probably helped that I first watched it as a tween. It was the first movie I saw go the distance and kill a kid onscreen before showing us the aftermath. I did recognize the SFX were laughably bad. Anyway, the most unrealistic part of CotC (2020) was how none of those adults in the town hall had guns. Some town halls have metal detectors, but... IDK, maybe they address it in the movie. Oh, and Eden is eating the apple because BOOK OF GENESIS. DO YOU GET IT?! DO YOU?! Making Vicky into a Sapphire stereotype in CotC (2009) was uncomfortable to say the least.

9:45 The original short story by Stephen King actually did feature a tense relationship between the protagonist couple Burt and Vicky with fighting being a key feature of their relationship. But there's a big difference between domestic disputes that are well-written and domestic disputes that are obvious set-dressing because nobody could come up with anything for these two characters to say to each other.

I do like 'Children Of The Corn' (1984). I was not keen, when I first watched. I was young and this was VHS Rental days. I wanted gore. I have watched this movie lots of times since and developed fondness for it. Perhaps for nostalgic reasons. I don't know. I put this in the same category as 'Pet Sematary'. However when you grew up, surrounded by corn/crop fields, children playing out on the streets. Which is what we used to do. "Go to the fields and play", parents would shout out to us. The story was a very different approach, of it's time. As for every sequel. Don't even bother going there.

Children of the corn 2009 might be as bad as it gets, but it follows the plot of the og short story very closely compared to the 80’s movie and the more recent one. It’s odd because out of the three, the bestish one is the og movie which is boring af, then the most faithful to the source material is the 2009 version and the most recent one is… a movie that exists. It seems that the best way to portray this concept would be a short film, preferably animated, as it could get away with more stuff than any live action adaptation could ever even try to do.

I can't believe I'm defending the terrible 2020 remake, but there is actually an explanation for why Eden saved some adults for later. It was because their deaths were personal. Eden's birth parents were very abusive, implied to be so in every way up until they died. She was then raised by the town preacher, who continued the abuse, if not escalated it. Everyone in town knew what was going on, but no one stepped in at all at any point in time with either her birth parents or the preacher. Eden's only escape was to run out into the corn, which is where she ran into the monster. It was the only compassionate adult form she'd experienced. So she killed the preacher because of what he did to her and then she killed the dad because he wanted to take the corn away from her.

Im a pretty big fan of this movie (if you couldnt tell) and the fact that it had TEN. OTHER. MOVIES. AND A REMAKE. Made me feel like a dumbass cuz i kept watching the first one, and I'll be honest, the first and original one is probably better than than the others. I also loved Burt in the movie, especially with how he looked and overall acted. But with the way his appearance was butchered in the remake.. 😟 I did NOT want to watch the remake for that alone *Spoiler* : and the fact that MALACHAI WAS AN *EXPECTING* FATHER IN THE REMAKE??? HELLO???

I've seen all of them. I'd say in terms of "so bad it's good" the 3rd Children of the corn Urban Harvest was the most entertaining as it had typical high school tropes in it that made it fun to make fun of. That was is for sure my favorite after the original.

By the way a fact to be known about the original movie is that the actor John Franklin the original actor for Isaac some think to believe he was a child in the role but he was actually an adult at the time and had the diagnosis of Progeria so technically he's an adult that just happens to look like a child. Oh and for those of you who never have even heard of Progeria before or have no fucking idea on what the fuck it is, it is basically to sum it all up it is a physical condition that some people are diagnosed with that when they grow up they will still age as an adult but unfortunately they will still look like a child in certain perspectives.

I love the original film, and the short story. Its a creepy ass scenario. Organized religion is already a scary thing, even moreso in a small and secluded town. But how much of a shit show would it be if all the children in town just up and decided to form their own church? They would absolutely be wide open to demonic influence, if you believe in that sort of thing. Even without that, it would be a total shit show and people would get hurt...

The opening of this video eclipses why I rarely go to the movies now and don’t watch most new blockbusters. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING from the big studios is a remake, reboot or sequel of something that had its time thirty years ago or more.

Idk if the thing can be really said to have been remade 3 times since The Thing is a remake and The Thing is a prequel to The Thing (they made the bluray confusing so im making this post confusing). Or with the texas chainsaw massacre some of the titles you listed are meant to be sequels to the original

I'm glad it's not treason or anything to think the original children of the corn movie was boring. I never liked cornfields as a kid (didn't like that you couldn't see around you) & my mom said something like "better not watch children of the corn then!" when I mentioned it. When I finally did see the movie, I thought it was so bad that it actually made me less scared of cornfields. Wild.
