The galaxy one is something I always think about. For all we know, our universe could just be the equivalent of a cell or a bacteria inside of something so huge compared to us, that we can't even comprehend it. There really is jo way for us to know for sure because we'll never have the perspective needed. Like a bacteria could not comprehend a human or the world at large, let alone the universe, that could be us.

Polygraph machines work in two ways. The first is essentially psychological manipulation, where the subject believes in the power of the polygraph machine so is more likely to be honest and self-report wrongdoing because they don't want to be caught out lying by the machine. The second is using the readings from the machine to detect deception. There is a lot of controversy surrounding this as it is virtually impossible to tell if changes in the readings are a physiological response to being deceptive or just an emotional response to the questions being asked, especially if the questions relate to highly emotive topics or incidents. As polygraph machines are often used to monitor compliance and re-offending of sex offenders, you can see why this might be an issue. Even experts in the field can't agree on the efficacy of polygraph testing. For more about the use of polygraph machines, I recommend reading Polygraph Testing and Sexual Abuse: The Lure of the Magic Lasso, a study published by Theodore Paul Cross and Leonard Saxe in 2001.
