The first time I heard of Hyperboria was Conan the Barbarian, so Robert E Howard wrote his own world and used some esoteric stuff from a bunch of different cultures and cults for world building
@user-zx9jq4pv1w
@user-zx9jq4pv1w Күн бұрын
Hyperborea was one country in Howard's Hyborian Age- Hyborians being barbarian descendants from Atlantis who overthrew Acheron, roughly the lands covering Aquilonia to Nemedia. Lemuria in the far east sank in the same cataclysm. Their survivors become the Hyrkanians among other nomadic barbarians of his Hyborian Age. Howard's essay on the Hyborian Age is a great piece of world building whose purpose was to create a setting that he could tell his adventure tales without worrying about historical accuracy which he cared a lot about when writing his historical fiction. I expect a lot of the catastrophe causation was also thanks to Ignatius Donnely's work like Atlantis The Antediluvian World which in its day was as influential on fringe thinkers as Blavatsky.

The thing about lost continents is that noone truly knows. Lemuria is plausible bc lemurs only exist on Madagascar, which would've connected to India according to the theory. But what about the "eye of the Sahara" located on Mauritania, Africa? Supposed to be Atlantis, not Lemuria. Idk, it's all just interesting to me. Except for theosophy. Blavatsky was a racist, and a liar. One of her masters was obviously named after a Hume, btw.

48:46 - Couldn't agree more. Those have always been exactly my sentiments. The first part is one of the most original, intriguing, and daring setups ever for a movie of this genre, and then, after a certain reveal, it turns into just another generic superhero movie.

I found Oppenheimer to be a disappointment. Spent way too much time on the investigation into his alleged Communist ties and not nearly enough on the scientific and philosophical ramifications of the advent of the atomic bomb. Really dragged in places, and I felt every bit of its 3-hour runtime.

I love how every time Mathas is convinced he saw something weird in the sky, it always correlates with the fact that he was smoking weed, and those two things don't seem to come together in his mind to explain why maybe what he saw may have been exaggerated in his mind.

The fireworks thing seems like people trying to dump their stock (illegally) during/after covid lockdowns due to cities scaling back the 7/4 shows. I'm commenting in 2024, but earlier in the year, Los Angeles police confiscated like $3M worth of illegal fireworks and busted a bunch of people who carried illegal firearms. There's a huge black market for illegal fireworks and I can see them trying to get rid of their stock cheap to recoup some losses.

Rating states based on alien attack survivability is the dumbest thing I've ever heard lol. How can you scale something against something you don't know? What if the aliens are giant noses and can't deal with air pollen? What if the aliens hate sand as much as Anakin and just skip nevada and arizona? Oh it was clickbait from a casino website, I'm less insulted now lol

I have skimmed through the article Jesse first brings up for the last 20-30 minutes and it is a tough but intereting read. The article is essentially a different set of equations to explain cosmology than the standard (Lambda)CDM model. This was all theoretical, as they did no hard calculations with their models for that article, but I do trust they are making these substitutions in good physics logic. Time to see if there are people trying to work forward from that paper

Jessie arguing about aliens prioritizing the US government doesn't make sense... why would the aliens know or care who runs a single country's government or where it might be located on a planet? If it was a space-faring race there's literally nothing on this planet that is a concern to them at all.

The first 20 minutes sort of catch up with recent happenings or 'news' if you will, and relate to the title, but I'm upset with how ambiguous the episodes are. I'd like to follow what I assume the main story of the episode is ('minisode' nomenclature superfluous due to insufficient distinguishability from what would typically be titled 'episode' (mentioned at 19:30 as starting in episode 133)) but the chronicling of past (or ongoing) videos' stories typically isn't referenced in the title or description.. only in a 3 second shoutout buried in 1-2 hours of video, and when all the podcast episodes are in one conglomerate playlist, the way to find a sequel or prequel to the story you'd like to listen to is to comb through every episode in from or behind or your place for it or a 3 second mention of it. For sake of personal example I remember mention of a follow up to "Episode 251 - The Tall Whites with Arin "Egoraptor" Hanson" of Chilluminati Podcast due to one of the voices from the video becoming intrigued and looking further into the story, but I have no idea from looking at the titles or descriptions of episodes since released if that follow up has been aired or happened yet. It's just a drop box with a lot inside, good stuff, but given very little respect, zero regard to cohesion, continuity, and organization. While I've no reason to believe the CP Team look at comments, I offer to attempt untangling the whirlwind of past episodes into a cohesive structure, and/or urge you to formulate one for future releases to conform to. Irrespective of proceedings, I've enjoyed a few cohesive stories from y'all, appreciate the good times and constructive banter. 👍
