What Hi-Fi has just realised it's 2020 list of the best hifi gear, and Chord rated as one of the best companies. A number of Chord products are listed as the best.

All you need is pro grade cables that do what they say they will do on the tin but at a fraction of the cost ... An electrical engineer or sound technician would laugh at these guys.

I'm considering this one for my system. I thought as I'd spent a grand on an amp and speakers I felt this would be doing it more justice than the 'fospower' one I bought.

For the first time I got to try out a pair of what many would consider expensive cables. Some would say they are cheap for cables. My friend won an auction for Chord digital epic with BNC terminations. I don't believe in the cable thing. I think it's just a rip off and in the mind. I asked if he would let me try them in my Dave/ Mscaler and tt2 with the Mscaler for testing. I use Chinese digital cables which I purchased off eBay for 20 pounds each, delivered. So it was 40 pounds Chinese digital BNC against 720 RRP pounds Chord Epic BNC price digitals. Were the Chords any better? Absolutely not. I switched several times to hear a difference. Both sounded excellent. The only thing I noticed was with the Chords in place, the sound was louder at a given volume, but not better in any way. The 40 pounds Chinese cables as good as the 720 pound Chord ones. Which represents excellent value for money? They can say all they like on their product literature because none of it can be verified. Chord is not the only company to make big claims.

@Rascallucci

I am thinking about the Signature XL, do you know what is the difference in sonic characteristics between the Signature XL and Epic XL by any chance? When I was doing my research, I came across some comments in a Naim forum which says Epic XL has a bigger and more exciting sound whereas the Signature is more neutral. Have you heard that?
@henriksrensen3220

@@Rascallucci Hi. I have not heard the Epic XL , so don't know the difference. The chord replaced the Naim.naca 5 and the Chord is clearly a better cable. Great synergy with my Gryphon amp and Audiovector speakers.

Not only there is no point in shielding a speaker cable, it may even degrade the performance due to stray capacitance. Cables barley make any audible difference. Sounds like a snake oil company...

I can understand people not being able to differentiate between shielded and unshielded cables especially when having your cables connected up to 2-Channel audio but for me as well as 2-channel I'm also into my Atmos and I can assure you when one has got 9-channels hooked up to unshielded cables.... the radio frequency interference is intolerable! Now that I've changed all my cables to shielded cables (shawline x / epic x) well put it this way no more fucking headaches!

@@MrsZambezi Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) in a sound system can be defined as an unwanted audible signal that invades the sound system via a radio frequency (RF) signal. Typical sources of RF signals: FM radio station, AM radio station, walkie-talkie, cell phone, Blackberry PDA. If the RFI is audible, it can take many forms: buzz, noise bursts, speech, or music. The common element is that these sounds are not desired in the sound system. I had to go for a lot of work to change my cables (as you can see) and it was only when I finally used shielded cables did my living room finally become quiet... kzbin.info/www/bejne/rai4YZdpg8uFh9k

Normally around 40%-60-%, but of course they need those margins. Without profit there is no business. I am having no problems if they earn profits with their cables. Just simply because music is emotion. And emotion is not for sale.

Then you have a cheap system. I've been stood before £375,000 worth of specially chosen Hi-fi components. All chosen for their individual traits picked to the owners own preferences... Speakers, Pre-Amps, Power-Amps, Decoders, Wiring etc... Heard the thing start up and it was literally room filling. Not loud as the guy didn't turn it up properly until it was warmed up from playing a few light pieces. Just room filling. The sounds wrapped round you. The dude then shut it all down and pulled out some cheap ebay style interconnects... Hooked it all up, powered it back up and I tell you right now, THERE WAS A MONUMENTAL AND CLEAR FUCKING DIFFERENCE! The system literally sounded strangled. In fairness, I'll say that the low end didn't see much difference but the highs were nowhere near as crisp and the mid range was more distorted and unbalanced. The power was still there for the most part but the finesse was all gone. It did not sound the same, it sounded worse. Not just different, worse. Straight away I wanted him to switch back over so we could go back to the real sound. If you buy expensive interconnects and hear no difference, the interconnects aren't the bottleneck to your system. As a good rule of thumb, if you're spending less than £10,000 between amplifier, speakers and audio source to begin with, you can stick to the £25 variety of interconnects. Another good rule of thumb is that you should never pay more than £100 on interconnects per £1000 of hi-fi when you start to get into the higher leagues. For most of whats considered mid-high-end home hi-fi stuff, Dali, Dennon, Tiac, Onkyo, Mission etc... Don't pay more than £50. You spend a grand on interconnects and wiring when you have something like a pair of these... kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3uZdYWLrqh0hMU

There are no bad cables left in the market especially not in the UK, tellurium, qed and of course chord. All excellent cables. It is also a matter of taste and if it fits within your system and wallet. Because silver cable is much to expensive for me because of the length I am thinking about buying the chord epic xlr cable (9m) because it is smooth.

And then Tellurium Q came along.... So on the one side we have the flat earth mob who really should get some help with their hearing issues..... it's all "snake oil" they bleat!!! As they put on another Oasis CD! On the other side we have those Chord obsessives who've failed to notice that the "Chord sound" is NOT the bee's knees. . I'm one of many who held onto their Chord Odyssey speaker cables for far too long - switching and changing everything around the cables.... until I finally realised what was holding my system back. That weird tinkly treble, that hint of grain... that bloated bass... yes folks it's Chord Odyssey.
