Great writing and programming, Anthony. :50 and the outro have an Olympic/NBC Sports vibe happening to my ear. Did you use any models for your orchestrations? How did you film/video edit the midi notes?

Hey Lee! Thank you for your kind words! :) For models, I’m assuming you mean like reference compositions/inspiration? If not, please do correct me! But basing off that, I did spend quite a bit studying some Polar Express and Home Alone scores, alongside a bit of The Planets Suite by Holst. In particular, I analyze what and how their orchestration can create a certain “tone”/feel, and how I could try such things in my own work! I was able to pickup on some cool arranging strategies, like the choir with high strings tremolos, or the soaring strings hit in the middle, with the counterpoint horn/trumpet lines! For filming and editing the video, I use Premiere Pro, but it is likely also possible to do this in DaVinci Resolve. Anything with the “Basic 3D” video effect will do, and there are many tutorials on the web for this. How I do my style of screencast is first creating many empty disabled midi tracks. From here, I manually clean up the MIDI depending on what I want a certain camera shot to have (so, one shot I’d like Celli Pizz, Flute Soloist, etc, and then separate them in the MIDI so its easy to distinguish parts). Every camera shot and/or background change you see will all be a separate recording each time. It takes quite a long time to do so, so sometimes I just record a piano roll. For the recording software, I like to use OBS, and record in high quality with 60fps typically, as it’s the most compatible with typical video formats. After I get all my shots recorded, I import them into Premiere Pro and get to work, adding the Basic 3D video effect to mimic a camera recording the screen physically, and then adding other content like vignette or the title page sequence. Usually, it takes me a few days of work to get a video done. I hope this does help a bit with getting to understand how I do it, though! :)
