Your great work is as per usual astoundingly and brilliantly detailed and painted and set up... just remarkably beautiful and masterfully presented... you are too young to have seen what you have brilliantly modeled and through which I lived... dude i am 75 years of age... you have preserved the era of Eastern Seaboard steam... thank you, Arthur...

PRR leased 1 Class A along with 1 C&O T1 for testing right before WW2 to see which loco they wanted to make. They decided on choosing the T1 so the J1 was born. Lionel did make a fantasy model of a “What if” PRR paint scheme with J1 and Q2 styled cab and some other modifications.

Hey Norm, I loved your latest video on weathering your Lionel Class A! It really brings the engine to life. With a detailed layout like yours & everything weathered, you have to do your magic & I'm glad you documented the process. I've yet to weather mine, but hope to soon. I'm looking forward to future videos, maybe a follow up to your short double header with a Y on the rear. Thanks for your contribution to the hobby!

Wonderful weathering. Thanks a lot for sharing your great but simple techniques. The loco looks brilliant on your fabulous layout. The loco smoke effects are by far the best I've seen, whether the loco is stationary or going at speed. As other viewers have commented, you have an artist's eye, Norm. I'm now subscribed and looking forward to more of your videos.

Well rounded video!!!. Love seeing how other people go about weathering. Must be a little nerve testing to weather a VL engine, but it does look great on your layout and amongst your other engines. Looks out of place clean going around your layout, lol. Great work as always!!!

Norm, your work is pure creativity, sort of like a Leonardo DaVinci in modern times using model railroading as your venue of creativity. Have you had experience with Atlas O's scale-sized electro-couplers? They are sometimes a bear to install but look great and mate well with Kadee. Ever since the 70's when I first got into model trains, I thought it odd that Kadee made their couplers to be capable of actually mating with Lionel's over-sized knuckle couplers. Of course I've come to understand why and it was from a marketing standpoint, very ingenious. Back to your creativity, I wish I had your eye.

I really like this style and amount of weathering. A couple of questions Norm: After spraying Dullcote, Polyscale, etc. do you clean the locomotive wheels and those rollers? I would assume that not doing so would cause problems. What solvent are you using to clean your airbrush? Thanks, Norm.
@normstrains
@normstrains Жыл бұрын
I clean the wheels and rollers with lacquer thinner on a Q-Tip. I run Windex through my airbrush to clean out the bulk of the paint then disassemble it and do the final cleaning with lacquer thinner.

Thanks for the advice, Norm. I gave it a shot today on an HO scale Y6b. Everything worked out, especially considering that it was my first attempt at weathering at steam engine. I made my Y6b slightly dirtier by dry brushing on some grayish-brown after the reefer gray on the lower parts of the engine. I also used a bit of weathering powders afterwards for a more dusty effect.

Norm, hoping you could possibly provide a bit of guidance, or maybe even consider a bit of a pros and cons video of some description. I've got the usual small scale plastic stuff we won't mention, but for some years I've been enjoying the older standard / wide gauge tinplate throwing their considerable weight around. I've been quite a fan of your layout and rolling stock for sometime, but haven't really been brave enough to jump in. All my standard gauge is old original simple brute force items, so the intricacies of O gauge scale is a bit scary. I'm a little reluctant to go thunking down a large wad of cash for a visionline articulated, but how does the weaver brass shape up? A k line scale mikado? Does one need train master TCC, if so would it be better to get one with all the biscuits already? All this electrickery boards and compatibility and obsolescence or burnouts is off putting a little, even to the point of forgoing the juicy bits and running as just straight dc... Or just plain one day bite the bullet and be happy ever after...
@normstrains
@normstrains Жыл бұрын
Depending on the vintage, both K-Line diecast and Weaver brass could be factory equipped with Lionel TMCC and Railsounds. These would have been made in the early 2000s. Be sure to research them carefully. For Lionel command control hardware, the old CAB-1/Base combo can still be found for reasonable sums and can run any TMCC engine in full command mode.
