Some v. interesting comments. For all The Church's wonderful LPs voer the years, they have ALWAYS remained for me an ultimate live band. that wall of sound they get bouncing the rickenbackers off the walls of the room is just sensational...

l loved this band...they were as brilliant live as they were in their recordings...gave us an alternative to the mainstream.

I was 7 yo. I had saved up and I was of with mum to get my very own music cassette, I and only I would decide on who I chose. This, thinking back, was a bit of a milestone for me. I chose 'The Church' 'Seance'. This song 'Electric Lash' was the first song I listened to on the cassette & first ever Church song, it became my favorite immediately, then Fly. I like to think I had pretty good taste in music as a 7 y/old. My brother & sister weren't to happy cause, He was into The Sex Pistols & the London punk scene and She was into Abba and Bucks Fizz at that moment in time. You can imagine the fights, friggin Brutal ... Why? ... Cause there was only 1 cassette player between 3 very angry kids. Ahhhh, Good Times

I remember walking around on some fairly decent, clean acid, while listening to this, in the 80's. By fuck that was a long time ago, but the memories of those times ping back at me every time I hear this gorgeous song.

ooh, yes indeed! I _recorded_ myself on acid while listening to this song. I might've been watching the video clip as well. I recall watching "It's No Reason" that day and was convinced that song contained the answers to heal the world, Back in 1986 things were cleaner and simpler.....

Interesting... my main complaint about Marty's albums has been that they've been over-produced...the only one I listen to is the live one (and I happened to be at the concert where it was recorded which is really cool :). Marty's live, raw, acoustic performance fills the room with a resonance and rich sound that just can't be reproduced on an album.

Great song. One of my fav's. That drum sound, still after all these years, gets me. Not Richard's fault. From what I have read, it was the producer. Best song from #3 (not counting sing songs and TFFY.)

@MegaPashaw sk is steve kilbey (singer/bassist) - ironically just yesterday he started what appears to be the bowie series in his blog - had to cut it short because he's not well - the blog's name is Time Being you can check it out it's some pretty amazing stuff... sk is one of the most intelligent rockers ever and it shows... and of course not all music by the choich sounds like bowie cos they're not a cover band - but bowie is definitely a major influence... cheers!

My favourite acid music too! This album coincided with the arrival of the infamous "iron curtain" trips that arrived in Adelaide, South Australia, at the time. Truly SUBLIME!....You're right, Levin Mulder, "It's No Reason" was great on acid. BLISS.

Are you sure it's a real forest? I've always thought it looked like it was filmed on a soundstage. I always thought the video for A Different Man looked similiar as well.
@franko667712 жыл бұрын
Call me crazy but I think the drum sound actually adds to the song. It's very 80s but I don't think that's a bad thing. Either way, brilliant tune.
@Foldisfitch13 жыл бұрын
@digoxin Maybe a touch of Bowie(who is also one of my favs) because of Kilbey's early very distinctive Australian/English accent(like Bowie on his very early stuff) but take the accent away and Kilbey to me has his own one of a kind voice.
@Kohntarkosz16 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I know what you mean. When I saw Marty Willson-Piper earlier this year, he was talking producers about producers who "tamper" with an artist's sound. I think he was refering to a record by Lucinda Williams, I think, from the 80's. He said something to the effect that some producers just don't understand how to handle an artist or a band who have an unique sound, they just try to make the record "radio friendly" or in keeping with the current fashion. I think that applies to Seance, as well

although the guitar sound at the beginning is distorted on here,when its normal and clear...those who are familiar with it should listen to 'whiteboy' off the new James album,great track but blatantly lifted the guitar intro from this....
