@@allaboutrussia2022 I am in Florida currently, working towards a master's degree in late Tzarist/early Soviet Russian history. I have moved all over the U.S., from Colorado to Michigan. The thing in the States is that people here don't understand Russia is a nation that is filled with distinct and remarkable cultures. Instead, most here often think of Russia as some uni-racial state, which has led to many a geopolitical failure on our end. I am studying Russian history to hopefully change the current state of America's view, not by trying to "analyse" Russia as we have done since 1991 but by understanding it. "Understanding" is a word the State does and has not comprehended, and I think the U.S. and Russia can, with hope and prayer, maybe become closer someday. At least, that's my hope.

@@Apistoleon Sadly, no, but I want to. (I came to the US when I was less than a year old). I am taking graduate Russian language courses along with my Masters in Russian history with a focus on linguistics. I know a lot about the language, its history, and the culture of the Chuvash; one day, I will. Are you also Chuvash? Do you speak it? (For me, I am a historian and Chuvash, so it's kind of burned into me that I have to learn the language.)

Chuvash here. First of all I want to thank you for your huge work and your video. It's really cool to look at your nation from other perspective. However I have some corrections: 1)The map in 1:55 is completely wrong. Viryal don't live in the south, Anat enchi are in the place of Viryal, Anatri is in the place of Anat enchi, Chirti is just another word for Anatri so these two words are just one group. 2)Runic scripts has preserved itself in Chuvash numerals even though only builders use it now( it's easier to carve this numerals on a wood than normal( 1,2,3,4...) (I - 1, II -2, III - 3, IIII -4 , / -5 , I/ - 6, X - 10, 𐠀-100 𐠁 - 500 ✳ - 1000 there is also a symbol for 50 but I couldn't add it) 3) Farms being collectivized was NOT a beneficial thing for chuvashs. 4)Chuplu is not a sweet pie. It's a meat pie. And, I need to say a delicious one :) 5) Okroshka is not chuvash it's russian. 6)The situation with national faith is not that simple. There are still direct pagan descendants in parts of Russia where Chuvashs migrated to a long time ago. There is a group of neopagan Chuvashs who are building Keremets in form of wooden idols and not trees. A huge portion of population has religious syncretism to some point. Even though they are considered as christians they are still performing pagan rituals to please spirits. Chuvash religion was never organized so everything may vary.

Чуваши как и многие древние народы в бытности носили в истории много этнонимов как и французы (галлы, франки, шампанцы, нормандцы, французы). Изначально чуваш называли эламитами, сузами-сувазами (жрецы), шумерами (люди дождя), самаритянами, скифами, гуннами,торками, булгарами, и опять жрецами (чувашами). 🎉

The Chuvash are modern descendants of Attila's Huns and have the ancient proto-Turkic language of the Ordos Huns. The Huns are alive and have not yet fully assimilated. We were, are and will be!

Hello! I don't think the situation of Chuvash is quite as stark as Sami. Nevertheless, as a Turkish language speaker, you might find it easier to learn than an English speaker!

Thank you but this is a bit wrong = "The only living language from the Oghur Turkic is Chuvash." There is also a language and people called Halaç(Turkish) or Khalaj(En.). It is also from Oghur branch of the Turkic. So I think they both share some related rules like "Words end with R not the Z". Thats why we cal this group Oghur not Oghuz.

Khalaj is NOT in Oghur branch linguistically at all. Oghur has only Chuvash Turkic left. Others disappeared.

Halaj is NOT an Oghur language. It is Common Turkic(Z-Turkic). Chuvash is the only surviving Oghur(R-Turkic) member.

@@msitso Yes, ethnically you are Turks. All Turkic people are simply Turks. A considerable amount of Chuvash people were Muslims just like other Bulghars around them. Kypchakization of Volga Bulgars distanced ethnic identity of Bulghars (modern Tatars and Bashkirs) from Chuvash people. After Russian expansion into Turkic lands, Russians forcibly baptized Chuvash and those who did not accept that and stayed Muslims joined their Kypchakized brethern and became Tatars. Baptized Chuvash people started to see Muslim Chuvash as Tatars. However, in fact Chuvash Christians, Chuvash Muslims, Kypchakized Bulgars (Tatars) were once all the same people. Today there are some Muslim Chuvash but they are really a very small minority among all Chuvashes. Maybe, if Chuvash people could remain Muslims without Tatarization (kypchakization), they would live on as a distinct people, but now they are doomed to Russification. First, the language becomes endangered, Chuvash today is endangered, then the language is lost, seems that it will not take long, then separate identity disappears, which is the last step of ongoing process... Sorry for Chuvash people. They are victims of Russian imperialism.

@@msitso Until early 1800s there was no word for Turkic. All people who are called as Turkic today used to be called simply as Turks. In imperialist era of the Russia and the west, as a result of divide rule policies , imperialists invented the word Turkic. They called it science. A lie of course. It is simply Turk. The very word Turkish used to mean Turkic until early 1940s. So actually there is nothing called Turkic. The word Turkic is just a political agenda of western enemies of Turks. The religion is irrelevant. We are talking about ethnic roots. Like are not, but it is a fact that Chuvash are Turks, however, they are different from all other Turks in terms of linguistics. That's it.
