I must say that the livestock you filmed (cows, sheep, horses) all looked sleek and healthy. The pastures looked good, and Caucasus mountains have good wells. Poor or not, it is "rich" in nature, and this gentleman seemed to know the history. I would love to see this area's farms someday. Thank you for this beautiful video!

If I had to suspect that people in a place would treat me like some sort of vagrant I wouldn't even bother going there. I would go somewhere else where people do not treat me that way. And if this happened to me I wouldn't even waste my time on "reporting on these people to the world", I would simply pack my things, leave and never speak of this place again.

These north caucus regions on Eli's channel are the most informative and will go down in history as being her best work. So few independent KZbinrs venture into these regions so the information is sparse. Kudos to that wonderful cab driver that gave you a a hell of a tour of the entire region outside the city. He turned what would have been a sad start to a great video into a wonderful experience overall.

My family is from the appalachian mountains in the US. Often described as the poorest area in the country and backwards for keeping old traditions. I've heard many appalachians say they'd rather be poor at home in the mountains, than have some money somewhere else. We also always make sure the oldest has the best seat in the house and if there's only os many seats, whoever is the oldest gets them. The rest of us will stand or sit on the floor. Appalachia was pretty isolated until the 90s also when the internet came around and opened up the outside world to them. I brought my sister in law down to appalachia and she was so surprised by how nice strangers were and how accommodating, because people have a feeling they should stay out of appalachia because they might get shot for being an outsider. Lots of similarities here.

Yes, though not entirely honest about Chechen violence only being in response to an act of offense or attack against them first in the present tense. As in other Muslim cultures, there is also a willingness to see this in a historical context--i.e., if such-and-such people _ever_ offended or attacked my people, then it is our right to retaliate or exact revenge, etc., when and where we choose. It was interesting to listen to Americans be completely mystified when Saddam Hussein would talk about events of a thousand years ago as if they were still relevant for being responded to in the present.

If you have ever lived among Muslims from within their own cultures (not from the West), as I have, the perspective in that way is just radically different. Western nations and the British, in particular, acted to establish a homeland for Jews following what had happened in the present--World War 2--not the past. The ancient historical piece was only that of establishing that Palestine had, in fact, been their homeland in antiquity, but that was not the cause of the present action. The present included the Mufti of Jerusalem consorting with Hitler in their common interest and cause against the Jews, including those who had already settled back in Palestine. The British established the Peel Commission to sort out the conflicting cultures and claims over that land, proposing a two-state or otherwise divided solution, which Israel accepted in principle but the Arabs rejected, leading to the state of affairs there ever since.
