It’s actually not that it’s money. China is willing to provide riskier loans to Latin American countries. They also sometimes just outright provide free humanitarian development.

You have to take history in context… 1) US policy might not always be virgin clean but it’s usually in our best interests. I’m old enough to remember the “us vs them” mentality of the cold war. 2) If S. American countries fail, and the people are unhappy, they come here, not China ..here. So better to “fix” it there or at least try. 3) Before you praise communist China, go look into how they’ve interfered in their sphere of influence….Vietnam, Cambodia, N. Korea, etc. 4) we don’t want Latin America to be beneath us we want them to get their shit together.

The period between 1964 to 1988 in Brasil is full of horror stories, unless you are aligned with the dictatorship... Many people went missing, many were confirmed to be killed and there was torture... truly a horrific part Brasil had to go through, I have learned in school and I also reaserached on my own. According to your view, given USA's lasting slavery, Indian genocide, segregation, and inveterate racism, it should have remained neutral and silent in WWII. US involvement in WW2 was minor, they joined the Axis front during the last push made by USSR, essentially showing up when the main problem was already dealt with. Nuking Japan was overkill, the country that was more or less cornered with its' main ally out of commission, but hey they had to test their new *warcrime weapons* right? US fought an ally to a worldwide threat *once,* and it wasn't even a tyrannical country considering everyone was onboard No, USA's sins are not an authorization for others to do the same. But it's a solid reminder for US to shut their mouth when trying to call others "cause-less warmongers" as they did the exact same thing for monetary gain or just because they could spread their influence this way. Grandstanding like they have the moral high ground, what a joke USA should stay out of the matter they have no relation to, and if they do have some connections to the situation - well that just goes to prove how much hypocrisy there is, cuz if US truly does care about bases stationed all across NATO countries in Europe and them potentially being threatened, then there's fingers in those pies. Fingers that should be kept to themselves
