Hi there, I too film natural sight and sound gopro walks in soulful cities, and I'm a real lover of slow TV, so it's great to see your nicely guided and absorbing video. I really enjoyed walking with you a while. Thanks for sharing, I have subscribed.

I worked for 30 years in the "City" just up from The Bank of England. I worked for Bank of Scotland which opened its doors for business on 17th July 1695 exactly 1 year after the Bank of England making it the second oldest Bank in the UK. Sadly now it is a mere shadow of its former self, what some of my general managers would say I hate to think, one in particular would be horrified, I am pleased he is no longer with us to see the destruction of this once brilliant Bank.

I think the Buddha knew what he was talking about when he spoke of the impermanence of things. It's still sad seeing a great institution pass away.

AmberPanda - Give away a higher quality of toaster oven when people open accounts and the bank will be doing well again in no time at all. The ones you give away now are rubbish. And those free calendars? Teller of the Month? Have you seen some of the tellers there? Eww…

Great tour. Yes, it's hard to see majestic old places being removed for chrome and glass but I find that all I can do about it is continue to love the old and try to develop some kind of affection for the new. If all a person can do is tut-tut and say what a shame it all is, they're not going to see the beauty that is still there.

A lot was destroyed in the Blitz and stayed ruined into the late 1950s. So new building has been going on since then. What seems old is often just ofi=fice buildings of the 1870;s onward which were found to be inadequately built even though they survived the War.

Too bad the city corporation over the past 50 years has allowed many fine 19th and early 20th c.buildings to be destroyed, mostly replaced by bland glass and steel structures that can be seen anywhere.

The ' city ' also has its own special police force that operate independently of the usual London metropolitan police ( the metropolitan police have their base at new Scotland Yard ) . The city police are known for being extremely serious and not to be messed with .

it's not a city within a city. It's a city. There is the city of london and the city of westminister, these are both city;s. The surrounding areas are not a city they are part of the metropolitan area of london.

My understanding is that a certain Duke's family (?) owns most of the land in the City of London Corporation. Who is he? Does anyone know? He is relatively young, i believe less than age 40.

*London is not a city, never has been a city, and never will be a city* contrary to what most people believe, therefore it is not a *city within a city* as that's impossible. The *UK* has *69 cities* and *London* is not one of them. *Greater London* aka *London* is a *county* and *region* which contains *2 cities.* Those *2 cities* are: 1 - The 8 mile square *City of Westminster.* 2 - The 1 mile square *City of London* which is also a *county.* Therefore for *Greater London* to become a *city* they would either have to persuade those 2 cities to voluntarily give up their *city status,* or persuade the *Queen* to forcibly remove the *city status* from those 2 cities, neither of which will happen.

The City of London has a Lord Mayor annualy elected by it;s aldermen who are elected by the citizens and has it's own Police. The Monarch may not enter without being greeted by the current Lord Mayor. It has many liberties like other similar cities in Europe. I think the City of Westminster was just the area around the former King's Palace and laterSt James.Palace ,where the King was proclaimed on succession , took the place of the King's Palace of Westminster The Houses of Parliament are supposedly on that site. . I grew up in the City of London attended school, and shopped in Leadenhall Market and voted as a citizen. The Monarch cannot remove the status . It is independent.

Jimbob Shanahan Ah! But what about the secretive underground city? :p
@maxmullen63377 жыл бұрын
Jimbob. The “City” of London has its own laws, it’s own government so it can’t be simply a part of the larger conurbation. It is even different to the rest of England. For example the Queen even has to ask for permission to enter. It’s all very civilised of course, but it is different.
