When I was a student at Yale the out of town tryout was belt at the Schubert innNew Haven and They had an invited dress rehearsal and they invited some students to see it and I got to attend. I don’t remember much except that there wasn’t really a script and it was a little too sympathetic to the south and romanticized it too much. The music is pretty but I have a hard time feeling sorry for the South.

I totally understand. The song "This Peculiar Institution" on this version of the soundtrack actually got cut from the show and it was one of the few that tackled the issue and didn't do that exact thing. Interesting to see what choices can make or break a show.
