Please keep in mind Steve wrote almost every Iron maiden song. Lyrics and all. Do your research this guy is the man and the real reason I became a bass player.

william warstrike that's an exaggeration, but he wrote a lot/the majority (depending on the album). In fact, on the newer albums most of the music is Adrian's, and steve arranges it, and bruce/steve add some melodies and lyrics.

His playing is real, not touched up flawless in the studio. The fact that you can hear fret buzzing and notes not hit as hard makes it great. 100%

One of the bass gods of this lifetime. If Cliff Burton was still alive, I'd sell everything I own just to buy tickets to see Cliff and Steve together in concert. Steve Harris is pure, fucking, genius. Plain and simple.

No, no, no. This is 100% Steve Harris. He plays for real, not through some pro tools bullshit. He plays hard and fast, and theres lot of percussion in the way he plays. Its raw and real.

@Michael Leicht That "buzz" is Harry's sound. He absolutely bashes those strings and plays with low action on the neck. The snapping of his strings on the fretboard is Maiden's backbone. It's greasy, it's dirty, it's fast and it's beautiful.
@Koosy77
@Koosy77 10 жыл бұрын
He doesn't hit the strings very hard, he just has raised pickups, a lot of headroom, and hits the strings with his finger tip percussively. Much like slapping, it's all about control and technique, not hitting the strings hard.
@AndreSpiteri
@AndreSpiteri 9 жыл бұрын
Serob77 actually much of that clickiness is inherent in jazz pickups. Try playing fast on a jazz bass and you'll get that clickiness without even trying.
@carpy1970
@carpy1970 7 жыл бұрын
He's talked about this in interviews multiple times. He plays very lightly with very tip of his fingers. I have his signature stings on my SH signature bass and can attest that you don't have to hit the strings hard at all. Andre Spiteri - he doesn't use jazz pickups, he has his own signature P-Bass pickups.

Been a huge maiden fan for many many years, have all their albums, have listened to every live record, have been to many shows. This IS harris. If you have doubts you probably aren't too familiar with maiden or steve's sound. Go home and do some homework.

When Steve Harris enters the Kingdom of Heaven (a long, long time from now) and passes though the Pearly gates. Peter will stop him in his tracks, hand him his bass and he will say..."God has been waiting for you...He can't figure out the bass solo in Phantom of the Opera...He swears you have twelve fingers"

so, it's easy if you are a good player... Give this baseline to someone who hasn't enough stamina (and you need quite a lot of that on his baselines) and he won't make it... Knowing which note to play doesn't mean the baseline is easy... You might know the notes by heart but you might not make it

These are from rhythm games like guitar hero or rock band. There's no way to obtain an isolated track once the master tracks are mixed in to one song.
@borizh
@borizh 3 жыл бұрын
@@Dennis19901 yea but guitar hero got to isolate the tracks somehow... unless they paid to have access to the original tracks... you know IM prob own the rights to their own songs... fear of the dark was recorded at Harris’ own studio... I bought many of the re-release albums under castle records back in the mid 90s and (I think) I remember reading that it was their label.

@borizh
@borizh 3 жыл бұрын
@@Dennis19901 it’s a possibility that someone was paid to recreate the tracks but it’s unlikely that it was Steve Harris who re-recorded them. The tone also sounds like it’s from the original track... Either way, good discussion... I would love to find out how it was done and whether it is an expensive software of some sort that allows you to do that.. very much like karaoke.
@Dennis19901
@Dennis19901 3 жыл бұрын
@@borizh In the case of Iron Maiden,. it's just the existing master tracks. I've read that when Guitar Hero 3 says "As made famous by" behind the song, that means it's a cover band that recorded it. Holiday in Cambodia is one of those. Also the track "Cult of Personality" differs from the original track released by Living Colour. It's apparently a re-recorded version (not sure if it's specifically for GH though).

Some things are A LOT harder to play with a pick. There are lots of fantastic pick players. Mike Oldfield, Chris Squire, Scott Thunes, etc. There are also many great finger style players- Steve Harris is one. But to say one style is better than the other is just ignorant.

If you can play with a pick AND finger-pick, that means you're awesome... I play the intro from "Hallowed be Thy Name" with a pick when Dave doesn't use one so I outstand more, and when he uses his pick again I'm on finger-pick again.. Why? Because I can... Don't criticize bassists who use a pick...
