Do you remember what happened to make Mick say, "Smart, really smart, for the rest of you this is 'Stay Free'"? He seemed to sing the whole song directly to some asshole in the audience. Put him/her in their place. I envy you for being there. I would've gone but I was 13 and lame and in North Dakota. Plus, I admit I didn't even get into the Clash until I was 15. Cheers!

Got to meet Mick Jones at Hitsville South in Asbury Park, when his then girlfriend Ellen Foley played live. Someone at the campus radio station tipped me off that he would appear and sing on her hit Tourchlight. I helped record the interview for WMCX which I didn't listen to because they were a WNEW clone. Mostly I listened to WNYU because they were hip.

I was there: Harvard Square Theatre | February 16, 1979 (with Bo Diddley) - Village Voice critic Robert Christgau walked out. Saw them many times after, up to the 17 concert Bonds marathon in NYC in 1981 (now you know why they hated record labels and concert promoters) after that they became an arena act

Miss Joe , RIP - Trapped at home and was watching clips of The Clash live and mistakenly stumbled onto the US festival recording - nice camera footage but man it is painful to watch that ASS Pete Howard butcher the drums. At one point he has to drop his left arm he just cant play any more. I Had to go find a classic topper show and this is a good one!! - he is just the best..

i bought white riot yesterday for a tenner the pistols were a tour de force - an art movement - the rest were copycats - as good as they all were i was listening to Metal Box the other day and i thought - they`ve totally nicked the banshees style - but nevertheless, PIL, like the pistols - were brilliant - and miles ahead of most if not all the other bands of the day there`s an interview where Joe goes - we were searched by rasta for pound notes - and paul kind of butts in and says - all we had was bottles watch Joe`s face - it`s like ; god i know he`s bullshitting but what can i say or do even the film Rude Boy is convoluted - or rigged - with, what riles me the most about it - even thought it is a good film - a credit to9 Thatcher at the end saying something like it`s time for change - as if Tories could be trusted i saw the clash a couple of times - and they were brilliant - but they never touched the Sex Pistols sorry Caroline Joe and Mick used to hang around Porobello market on a Saturday - i`ve walked right by them - but not spoke - i was about as communicative as a mute lepper in those days
