I was on the Rock Against Racism demo/march having travelled down from Scotland on the bus the previous night but fucking missed The Clash due to the size and slowness of the march. Secondary to the fight against racism and neo-nazis but I was fucking gutted! I STILL AM!

C'est qui le gars habillé en " Trouver Charlie " ? The clash, pour les avoir vu à Mogador début des années 80 c'était une révolution musicale. Cela nous changeait de la variété bien ronronnante. C'était le choc.
If the guys could have kept their heads together and made a proper album after London Calling (say combine the best bits of Combat Rock and Sandinista into a single killer album) they could have played crowds like these on their own in the 80es...
@finnmoore41923 жыл бұрын
Cut the crap had a couple of good ones but the thing is their manager bernie Rhodes tried to take too much control over the band and took over the song writing and made it very 80s kind of more pop and without mick Jones and topper Headon it wasn't as good, if u ask me it was bernie Rhodes fault, and to back my point bernie Rhodes decided not to be their manager and after he went they made London calling their best album when bernie wasn't there
@M1tjakaramazov3 жыл бұрын
@@finnmoore4192 Perhaps, providing Rhodes had a major change in musical conviction. Their first two albums were made under him as well, albeit with a different producer. You have to bear in mind he did remixes of certain Sandinista songs that were very good and actually presaged the emergent club scene. Cut the crap has a lot of songs with huge potential, and it is indeed the production that screws them up. Even a direct 80es driven disco approach would have worked with better production decisions. But with Sandinista, if you look at interviews from the time, of Strummer especially, it was clear they were trying to replace quality with diversity, most probably out of creative exhaustion and apprehension. It happens to the best of bands when their first wave runs out.
@finnmoore41923 жыл бұрын
@@M1tjakaramazov yeah I think it was a step too far once bernie took over the song writing, the lyrics in the songs before that where so meaningful
@M1tjakaramazov3 жыл бұрын
@@finnmoore4192 Well Strummer himself called some of the first album lyrics stone age 😅 ...but around the time of London Calling they did develop a genuine sensibility to convey deeper emotional and social sensations. I personally think Strummer was a very fragile soul creatively, and towards the end he lost the ability to control it and channel it properly into music. Instead of composing brilliant aggressive tunes he reverted to preaching in interviews and opting for ill-considered creative decisions. He was a poetic example of what happens to people whose hearts are too good.
@lordclancharlie13253 жыл бұрын
Yeah so much waste in those albums, brilliant good writen songs but the arrangements and production what a crap.After London Calling they messed up everything, it's like they're making poor covers of good songs
