The windscreen issue was absolutely fixed. Infact, it was discovered before the trains entered passenger service and that was the major reason for the delay resulting in 365 deployment. The windscreens on the drivers side were replaced on every unit.

Pretty good at engineering the architecture of the processors in every phone. So we’ve got that. Crossrail looks pretty amazing too. UK car plants churn out quality cars every day. But let’s just sit in our armchairs and claim we’re hopeless.

I’ve read the window issue actually did get fixed quite a while back, by simply replacing the curved glass with flat panes. That reportedly has the side effect of making the cab feel slightly smaller

Id say that the problem is Hitachi had to source everything that was certified in Europe, which meant that most of the stuffs passengers see had literally nothing to do with Japan.

Take these everyday to work. Fast, Smooth and all. a big improvement on the Queen street line via Falkirk High compared to the Turbostars. The seats are disgraceful, but otherwise, a lovely bunch.

Hitachi is a good brand. Built the E5, E6, E7 and E8 shinkansens as well as brilliant Tokyo Metro trains (17000 series). Hitachi has no type of train nameplate in Japan, only A-Train. For example, the Sotetsu 20000 series (my favourite A-Train due to it’s quality) is part of the AT100 family but the family was just A-Train. As for the quality, it’s something you expect from pure Japanese quality. So the 385 is similar though a different type and design for European standards. But Hitachi trains built in UK are just a joke and shame for Japanese trains themselves. If they were made locally in Japan like the 395, it would be a lot better in quality though I am not sure about the shipping process 😅. Anyway, brilliant video mate!

With the planned partial electrification of the Fife circle by the end of 2025 it will be interesting to see if the 385 BEMU offer is revisited or Scotrail go the FLIRT route. Either way, with the apparent lack of any official tendering process together with the electrification work having seemingly stalled I don't see a decision being made anytime soon.
