You always come with the facts Unc, black folks ignore that factor in relationship dynamics. Class is yet another deciding contributor in mate selection, it’s almost subconscious.

People on social media struggle with understanding socioeconomic class. Because it is cultivated during childhood. And they think/feel that multiple temporary interactions is entry into high class spaces. It’s possible to move up the socioeconomic classes during adulthood. But only a small percentage of people will. Because it requires an absolute change in one’s environment, behaviors, and beliefs/worldview. “You can pay for school but you can't buy class” - S. Carter

Real talk. Even as a child in poor areas, I still had some exposure to higher classes through extended family members. Private high school was a great leap. Even then, I still have some hood elements.

The issue for black Americans is money is what people use as a weapon for class and we have been systematically forced into something lower. So for black Americans they rather chaos than be on the plantation. It’s not a “struggle” of understanding it’s an unconscious and sometimes conscious rebellion.

Uncle Rom always spitting facts. Most educated, professional, white collar women will choose a banker, lawyer, sales manager, or financial advisor making $70-$100k a year over a power lineman, electrician, truck driver, or welder making $120-$150k a year. It's all about the perception. Especially with women. They care about how they are perceived by their peers and how their man will be able to mingle. Who can they bring to their professional outings, sorority alumni events, etc.

You are right. My homegirl has a masters degree and was dating this plumber. He wanted a relationship but she did not like the perception of having a blue collar boyfriend. Fast forward this plumber is now buying rental property. I know she regrets her decision.

@@targetegrat She probably did not regret her decision about the plumber because it is not only about income, but it is also about education, socioeconomic status, and social class. She probably preferred being alone rather than to marry someone outside of her social class.

Excellent commentary. I grew up middle/ upperclass in the South and was always taunted by other black girls for being bougie. I was just raised differently thanks to my family. My shortcomings came when I started meshing more amongst certain classes instead of maintaining what my family instilled in me. There's a difference between ghetto fabulous and actually coming from a high-class mentality and lifestyle.

Cosigning everything... My AKA ex-fiance is currently a doctorate in Psychology. Before I moved to a different part of the country to be closer to her we'd already discussed a further degree path for me to become a doctorate in Education and enter into a mid-six-figure career path that she knew the contacts for. I was already moving to the area to pursue Pharmaceutical Sales, but she had a specific fallback plan in case I wanted to do something else. Furthermore, we'd discussed a long term investment strategy where she could leverage my knowledge of real estate investment with her personal contacts. She was a beauty queen, track athlete, amd everyone knew/liked her... Sadly, I remember being deeply disappointed when I saw how needlessly ghetto her sister was. It was the performative suburban, over the top, fake ghetto impression sisters do akin to guys acting hood...

Still don’t like how it ended though lol 😂

I’m 55 divorced from dc homeowner in Waldorf. Dating is for the birds at this age. Easier to beddown a younger woman. But a grown axs woman in shape is hard to find. I once dated a lawyer I’m a bsn nurse prior military army and air force . Her brother was a doctor , she had 2 sisters that were lawyers and a sister that was a college professor. I was the first in my 4 siblings to complete college and one of my brothers was a jail bird. She had low key issue with folks of certain backgrounds/class. She would always be suggesting that I go back to school for masters / dr degrees.

@richard4079 It has always been about class and accomplishments. How would you feel (after investing in yourself and your children) that someone who was not on the same socioeconomic level tried to become part of your clan? It is hard to move up to the upper-middle-class. And you have to raise your children to date and marry within the upper-middle-class in order to maintain their class status and wealth into the next generation. That's how it has always been done. Disney movies and Tyler Perry movies have confused the masses.

This is my first time seeing you. I like and appreciate this video. I’m like you, I flow relatively easy between all classes. I am in the dmv business and politic environments for what I do. So you are correct in what you are saying. I gel well with 92 men but I can’t stand 92 women generally for prolonged periods. I usually find holes in their thinking and logic that turn me off. Heck, with the class differences, you can take it as far as the time of year the different social classes and groups decide to have their events. It’s truly eye opening. My personal choose of women are generally 89‘s that knows how to step into the 92’s space. That’s just myself personally. But glad BGS posted this. Im going look at more of your content right now. Hope it’s more like this.

90% of men date down a CEO can walk in to a fast food spot see a younger women wife her that week . Having dated a women who has over 5M in the bank she had to meet my standards know matter what her income is . If a woman run s across a dude that makes her feel somekind of way she's going think about getting that no what her income is not all cases but right place right time . I hear women but their actions are aways more important .

You grew up in nat city? Nice. I grew up in lemon grove/south east daygo evtuanlly moved to Oceanside then Point Loma. San Diego is a great example of classism. South Bay full of those 85 octanes then you go to La Jolla it’s nothing but 92’s. A good amount of black kids grow up in that 92 range and act like it lol. Not really too many black middle class out there, usually high class like La Jolla or lower like South Bay.

People were triggered by the bytchiness of how that lady answered the question. She was indeed voicing a social class distinction, but BlkFolks are super sensitive to being talked down to. Furthermore, she's an AKA Attorney who has had access to the entire totem pole of men in the US. I don't like to refer to women as masculine, because I don't think it's descriptive enough, but I definitely see it in her...

It’s almost like you’re bred…. For that status…. It definitely has its advantages depending on the person and their desires…. But most men don’t even want to be in the club unless you are born into it Michael Jordan adapted into that environment pretty good or do you think it’s more related to time period he grew up in… because his mother in the movie seemed to possess some of those upper echelon characteristics Because that group of men are extremely competitive and it’s funny you said that about the facial hair … Jordan never really wore any… also playing golf Serena and Venus Williams… kind of also successfully made the transition through sports or upbringing?
