why do the whistles sound more quite than before?

@@tylerpozzi9904 for a number of reasons: 199 is quieter than 306 because the air compressor used to be super slow and we were afraid that the air tanks would run out of air, so the whistle was modified to use as little air as possible. 199 eventually received a new, faster air compressor, but the modification to the whistle has yet to be undone (which is unlikely). 306's whistle was modified slightly to change the tone in attempt to not have the whistle so ear-piercing anymore, but it didn’t make any difference and in my opinion it sounds worse than before, although I’m not bothered anymore. While 199 is now quiet AF, at least its whistle is still decent sounding.

@@davidng2336 Im going to miss the sound of 306 because that was the waste I lived as a kid. Also I drive the trains over at Van Saun Park in Paramus, I got certified in June

@@tylerpozzi9904 no need to worry: 396 will be here for many more years, even though the whistle isn’t the same anymore. Also glad to hear you’re a driver at Van Saun with their Iron Horses! I have yet to visit Van Saun.
