far too overdramatic... he's only going to war... not certain death. also the scene is far too long and drawn out. there is no real romance here. and I can't take the scene seriously when he is sitting there inexplicably wearing a helmet on the train for some strange reason.. this is faux emotion for an emotionally vagrant modern audience, as well as people who find such a common situation hard to imagine

But considering Kwak Jae-yon (the director)'s style is to push all dramas to the extreme, like what he did in My Sassy Girl or Daisy, it's nice to watch. Besides, I think facing an absolute death is much easier than going to war, where everything is uncertain. You don't know when you will be back and you don't know if you're still the same person anymore even if you come back alive. To some people, going to war is a painful goodbye, because it changes your life in a much different way than death. This scene is exactly what I would call romance. They don't speak to each other except their names. They don't hug or have any physical connection. The only time when their hands touch, they are still separated by the window. Just the music, and the way they look at each other.
