This is something I've never tackled on a VW. Thanks for taking the time to explain this process so clearly Chris!

ALL RIGHT CHRIS!!!! Wovee has her scrapers in, a lot less painful than expected, plus, my corners fit pretty darned good. The video that JBugs sent with the door kits is pretty much useless.

Hi, Chris, and thanks for another great video! Do you have Instructions or a video for mounting the seals for the door window in a split window bug? I'm restoring my '52 ragtop, and would appreciate it very much. Thanks from Bergen, Norway! Svein

Chris your videos are fantastic.. how do the vent windows stay open while driving.. mine close shut with the wind in a sec
@classicvwbugs3 жыл бұрын
There is a vent shaft clamp bolted to the door behind the door panel, you would have to take off the door panel and make sure it is there, and if it is, tighten it up.

Yeah, I've already drilled out the two rivets holding the hinge to the frame. The entire vent window had to be assembled so I could replace the broken lock mechanism. Using your rubber strip + adhesive "tip" to reseal the window in the chrome frame. :)

Chris - on a 66 with the vent window frame, do I need to drill out and replace all the taps in order to disassemble the guide and replace that inner vertical (straight) seal (the one you slid in), or should I be ok to work the seal in gradually?
@classicvwbugs11 жыл бұрын
No you should not have to do that to change the vertical seal. You would have to take the glass & frame out in order to change the perimeter frame seal though.

Hi Chris, Can you show the same but for a 72?
@PSPHaCkErAOD13 жыл бұрын
can u make a video on how to do this on a new bug, my 68 really needs new seals, but i dont let other people touch my car, lol
@FoxMcCloud1200012 жыл бұрын
I presume you have to do the same procedure with a 69 model to instal the vent seal and vent window, right? 'Cause I have a leak trouble with those seals... actually, the whole door... -_-'

Putting the screws in the top vent window is way more challenging than your video relfects. I've spent 2 hours trying to get one screw in the upper vent. Impossible for me to press down on the vent window, pull the rubber off to the side, guide the pivot into the slot, hold the screw and turn the screwdriver all with my 2 human arms.. I appreciate your video but wish it came with a big warning about the level of difficulty. I do have 3 new scratches.. I'm just driving it with no windows 4 now.

@brighteyefilms Nice. Thanks!

Ah then you are doing something wrong then, maybe the seal is not seated all the way on the bottom and the window does not want to go down further, hence making it difficult to get the screws in. Should not take two hours. And I mention this all time to people and in my videos and newsletters, that doing doors is a BITCH! =o)
