I think this is what makes a game a good RPG, the fact that WoW: Classic was much more slow paste, gave you the feel that you were actually a part of a living and breathing environment. If you had a quest that sent you to the scarlet monastary to take down the bosses it meant that you had to prepare for a long and dangerous journey and this is what made classic great I guess. You had to travel to different continents, you had to prepare yourself for epic dungeons and even raids, you had to socialize and interact with players in order to clear a certain areas. I don't say that current WoW is bad or anything it just lacks a few of those points which classic had and made it a great game.
@yoman80276 жыл бұрын
And, why playing a slow game should be funny?
@AhmetWinchester6 жыл бұрын
@@yoman8027 for me personally the feel of an "adventure" truely develops as you progress slowly but surely. Frodo and the fellowship could've flown on eaglebacks end ended sauron quick (I know weird comparison) but the fact that it took the fellowship such a long time to finally "defeat sauron and destroy the ring" makes the journey and especially the lord of the rings such an adventure. Dunno I like comparing wow classic to any RPG typeish movie/tv show eg. Just my highly subjective opinion
@randomasgray6 жыл бұрын
Comparing the plot of LOTR to Classic WoW is fair, and you missed a couple of things. They couldn't fly on eagles in LOTR because the eagles were fighting some enemy of their own, so that prevented it as an option. The real reason though was that the journey prepared each individual as well as the group as a whole for what was to come. If they had just instantly gone to Sauron then they would have failed. It is the same in classic WoW. The exploration and the time you had to spend not just with your character but with others was to prepare you for the end game content and the mechanic knowledge and social interactions you needed to succeed.
@Nickolov7076 жыл бұрын
Honestly i never thought of WoW like that back then. I was too young to understand anything. now that really made me think. I might like to play Classic wow for that reason. the large ass fucking journey with friends sounds fun. and also you can find others cross path as they are on an adventure aswell. a nice hello, maybe trade few items, or join them instead to a better adventure.

For Horde there was the Badlands run. Who remembers that? Running through skull level guards in those tunnels between loch modan and wetlands. Normally you had to run from Arathi Highlands, but you technically could run from Gnomer after unlocking the teleporter through Dun Moroph (this was all at level ~36). Or if you were clinically insane you could run up from STV, through Duskwood, Elwynn, Redridge, Burning Stepps, Searing Gorge, then into Badlands. Again, at level 36. Yeah, one guy I knew didn't know that there was a bridge connecting the upper and lower halves of eastern kingdoms. Heard Badlands was a horde leveling zone, and off he went. Like a psychopath. Brings a tear to my eye.

As a Horde, we had the Badlands run, which was just about the same run, but in the other direction. To be honest, I'm not sure if it was for a quest or just exploration out of curiosity, but I did it at level 24. On foot. And it was epic. Leaving Hillsbrad Foothills behind, entering the danger of Arathi and then that Dwarven bridge... you knew this was enemy territory and you're pretty much canon fodder from now on. Climbing the dwarf-invested road to reach the top of the impressive dam was probably the most epic. At level 24. Making it alive along the border of Loch Modan until you saw the orange earth of the Badlands.

There is also the "Blackfathom Deeps" run especially for (alliance) paladins for paladin class quest at level ~20's starting from either Stormwind or Ironforge. Stormwind -> Ironforge -> Wetlands -> (Take boat to Rutheran Village from Menethil Harbor) -> Auberdin (Darkshore) -> Zoram Strand (Ashenvale) -> Blackfathom Deeps finally, which is in my opinion also another excellent dungeon in Vanilla WoW... Another long unforgettable epic journey. Ah you also need to take the quest from Auberdine for the diamond quest for paladin weapon quest. But nothing, NOTHING beats 5 dedicated adventurers determined to do all of "Blackrock Depths" in one sitting. If you can find 4 of these adventurers in your life then you can accomplish almost anything with that small core of 5 people. Ah there is also the 45 min Baron Run epicness but that's another story... besides I digress.. excuse me.

Started out as alliance and finally came to my senses, but no matter what faction, this dungeon is key as a caster. He just drops so many good items for lvl range, and if your smart you'll bring along a rogue friend with the prospect of Meteor Shard Dagger dropping. I later used it to help power lvl guild mates and friends because it's Goldilocks. Not to long, not short, just right. God I loved SFK

I've done this run a lot having played vanilla retail and about 10+ different private servers but three years ago I did this run with Vanilla new players and it was really awesome. We all grouped in world chat then gathered at menethril harbor. We traveled a full 5 person group in order to protect from any mobs. Along the way we took screenshots at the bridge and ended up ganking someone in Arathi who was 10 levels higher then us ( we took another screenshot on their corpse ). I don't remember how the dungeon went, I just remember all the screenshots and banter. By the end of it we were all on each others friends list and I did some max level raiding with one of the group members, later on down the road. One of my favorite WoW experiences in the past 5 years. I'm really excited for all the new Vanilla players for the luck that maybe I get to participate in this experience with them.

I don’t know how you do it consistently, I have a newfound respect for machinima makers :P

I used to run from Khaz Modan to Teldrassil (and vice versa) for the sake of the adventure back in my begging days (the Wetlands run). I once tried to cheese the run by getting myself killed and making the trek as a ghost. When I revived at the spirit healer in Teldrassil I spawned at the graveyard closest to my dead body in Khaz Modan, good times!! :)

Brings back so many memories its on par with running to scarlet monastery running past under city and getting killed by that lone Brie Guard that walks randomly up and down the paths and trying to dodge horde players.

The one i remember the most is Black Rock Depth, because it was so massive you could get lost in it at first, also when you first go there going through the ash volcanic lands and entering that impressive volcano inner room where the instances and raids are.

The Scarlet Monastery run for Alliance is like the SFK run+ Not only do you have to do the same route (unless you have the Southshore flightpoint which at the level you're going to do SM you really should) but you have to go past Silverpine and into Tirisfall, running past the zeppelin tower and the gates of Undercity, which is a high traffic area for Horde players, and even in PvE zones you will be flagged because Tirisfall is a Horde starting zone. Also, the Bulwark has no flight points in vanilla, so good luck with that!

Classic Vanilla Wow was full of these great runs, everything seemed so huge and vast, and you'd have to beat this challenge...just to get started on where you were going! So many questhub towns (also served as safezones from gankers), dungeon and raid entrances all involved great journeys, sometimes vast, dangerous and entering enemy territory. All you had was the ingame map and a direction, you never knew who or what you'd end up bumping into and running for your life from alone the way! Danger and mystery at every turn, that was the Vanilla WoW way.

Best thing in vanilla is that you think you made progress, then getting over whelmed by whats next to come. Its just full of surprises.

I did the SFK run. During mists though. I was very new to the game, the Queen of the Noobs and I didn't know that the quest I just received was a dungeon one, so I didn't use LFG. I traveled to Ironforge via the deep rail tram - having discovered it recently, after I died 700 times trying to enter the Burning Steppes in order to get to Loch Modan to deliver some package from a dwarf - crossed the wetlands with no major issues and entered the Arathi Highlands. I stayed on the road and encountered no major problems until I reached the gate of Thoradin's wall and died another 700 times trying to get past the Forsaken camp at Galen's fall and the one across Durhole keep. and the deaths continued all the way to Silverpine forest and by the time I got to SFK I was all red. And of course, I discovered that it was a dungeon and therefore I could not get the materials for my weapon. But it was all worth it because I traveled so much and discovered so many new wonderful places and I became more familiar with all the new zones. And since I was on a started account for many months, it became a hobby of mine to see how far I could venture into a higher level zone before I start dying horribly. And I discovered new ways to get into Silverpine Forrest. There is also another run you could also mention, Nixxiom. The Eastern and Western Plaguelands crossing into Sillverpine Forest with a level 20 Belf. On a mount and stopping at every flight path on your way there without getting killed. Or vice versa on your lvl 20 Forsaken character xD.

Shadowfang Keep reminds me a bit of Karazhan because they both have an archetypal "mysterious castle/tower, overrun with spooky creatures" theme. To me they're both iconic instances.

Just got you a subscribe, Shadowfang is my favorite instance in the whole game. At 60 I used to farm it over and over just to be in it. Grabbed the dagger and made serious money on it.

I remember the longgg SM run as an alliance player and trying not to get ganked waiting for full party. Then running through all the elites to the instances. I loved the lore from SM and I look forward to playing all 4 instances again.

So, so excited for classic. Hit 60 on my warrior back when, if you wanted to run UBRS as a warrior, you had to put a pug raid together. My biggest achievement in vanilla was getting my "Breastplate Of The Chromatic Flight". Thank you for the classic videos, I had forgotten all the big and little reasons I fell in love with the game to begin with. Seems like all of my favorite parts of classic have been removed in the name of "quality of life" improvements lol.

On current WoW, as an alliance player, i do something I call the Gilneas run. Basically, it's the SFK run, but to Gilneas. I didn't even know the SFK run was a thing. Me and my friend just traveled there with our lv 20s a couple days ago just for fun since my friend doesnt have a subscription. You can't really do much there, but I just like going there.

Just gotta say, my favorite run came when I took inspiration from the WoW comic "Flintlocke vs. The Horde". I took my lv10 Troll hunter who just learned how to tame pets, all the way from Durotar, through the Barrens, Ashenvale and Darkshore, snuck onto the night elf boat and went to Darnassus. Once there, I had to corpse run through the city and out into the wilds of the world tree! There, I tamed my white owl pet and hearthed back home! That took me the better part of an evening, if I recall. :P

the greatest journey I ever went on was during TBC (I first played in vanilla but got my account in tbc), was the epic saga that is the trek to the Hyjal Barrier. it didn't matter where you started because no matter what, as a low level explorer who played war3, you wanted to get as close to hyjal as possible... for faction equality, lets say you start in Ratchet... easily passing through the barrens into the stark contrast of Ashenvale. Avoiding every mob in sight as you made your way through the Kal'Dorei forest... But then came the challenge... Felwood, Warcraft 3 burning into your mind that this place was not safe... and yet you try and try and try to make it north. Dying a good 10 times til your gear is all damaged. And you thought, oh, I made it. I just have to go through this... tunnel. And then the horror of death after death after death left your gear all in the red and useless. Corpse running again and again until finally after a great deal of time... you make it out. On the wrong damn side cuz now your in moonglade and its 3am. but you press on anyway, back through the tunnel... and after more sadomasochism you are released into Winterspring. The quiet serenity of the snow that's fallen in the chilly shadow of Hyjal distracting from the fact that though not as populated with as many enemies... these are the strongest enemies you've seen in game yet and you aggro them from a mile... so you make your way carefully around as many as you can, planning out with strategy and cunning your path to Everlook the one safe haven you were told existed in the zone... Dodging patrols and dying to countless enemies you could not even see the level of... You realize its now 7am and the sun is coming up so you hunker down for a power nap with alarmclock.net for 20 minutes before it blasts you awake and you go right back at it... You repair your gear foolishly... finally you see it, a giant wall of ice and rock blocking your way forward and before it a deep crevice of which a fall would mean an unsavory corpse run back... but after Timbermaw Hold and Felwood you are now professional at traversing around these ruthless killer npc's… and you make it to the very end of the zone and.... and something is wrong... darkwhisper gorge... demons patrol the area... and now...you realize ahead is your goal... and the servers go down.

Gnomeregan as horde was also very cool. You had to run past Ironforge and low level alliance players questing, and the dungeon was very epic.

I like these videos of the infamous runs you had to take. I was thinking about how the game used to be and it really did hit me of how important travel was back then. Traveling through the world was so immersive and that adventure was so important for the atmosphere of the game.

The biggest achievement for horde was the run to Stockade and for Allies it was Ragefire Chasm. Because both these instances are in main cities. It was always hard to go there and do those Instances.

never mind, you can just LFD now and it automatically takes you to it, and because of how inheritance gear works, you can clear the dungeon without even paying attention to it

Everyone complains about heavy grinds and long runs in mmorpgs but I feel like that’s what makes it work. And it helps spread content out but not being able to 1shot everything in a couple days and then getting bored.

In TBC, i did the "Plaguelands run" as a blood elf, because i didn't know that there was a teleporter in Silvermoon. In vanilla I remember traveling to ironforge and stormwind as a lvl 20 tauren warrior, because I wanted to reach the legendary lands of the mysterious Alliance...
@fredrick11766 жыл бұрын
As someone who plays both sides, these runs were the best. But as someone who also likes cows, running from mulgore to sfk and tarren mill was just as epic. Go from these bright barren zones to the gloomy forests of eastern kingdoms for the first time was just amazing
@ParsimoniousTuring6 жыл бұрын
Horde running to VC was no picnic either at level, but as a hunter (or rogue).. that Defias gear is SO SWEET that it was worth trying to dodge everything in Stranglethorn and all through Westfall (including Alliance players on a PvP server and NPCs on a PvE server) just to get to the mines and pray for certain drops. What you didn't mention is that SFK and VC are VERY different in Vanilla.. I foresee MANY wipes. MANY :) LOL!
