I'm a 50yo from the US and have to say that Dunedin scene in the late 80's was one of the best scenes in the world. Flying Nun Records had tons of good bands. what is the scene like now?

Not slick = double plus good! Slick is death on real music. But raw is very very hard to hold onto. Before you know it you get "good" ie slick and then you sound like ten million other bands. Slick is boring. Which is why slick bands need fireworks and huge stage shows and all that other showbiz crap.
@encycooper4 жыл бұрын

Awful music, awful lyrics, awful dancers, awful camerawork. A disaster.
@sth501009 жыл бұрын
Thats why is good because its real live, over 30 years ago (rough and ready - pre MTV) with soul. ie the essence of the .DYI approach of early Flying Nun bands to get away from souless over produced, following current fashions at the time. Unlike the zillion dollar souless slick over produced / choreographed music videos since that do this to make up for the lack of musical substance. The Clean were Flying Nun Records first success and are regarded well internationally for this reason and have been copied since.
