This show was just one part of the rich tapestry of a vibrant nation : The kingdom that colonised the world and built an incredible network of shipping, railways trade and livelihood. Shows like Archie Andrews, where a ventriloquist performed on radio ??? , Desert Island Disc , The Billy Cotton Band Show, and Around the Horne, comprised the Sunday afternoon staple for a national community , upright and secure. The character of old Blighty was rich at this time, within the business and entertainment world, and they are days to be well remembered. Thanks for posting .

I agree with "Postwar46" below. We had smashing Radio Comedy. I remember all these on the radio: Hancocks Half Hour, The Navy Lark, (Leslie Philips) Round The Horne, (Kenneth Williams & Kenneth Horne) The Glums & Whacko. (both Jimmy Edwards) Rays A Laugh, (Ted Ray) even Steptoe and Son. All great Radio - and Jimmy Clitheroe stands tall (joke) against all of them. Thanks "DJ".

My father was German 1962 and before he would make German food and the family would listen to this program and others, I still make exact copies of all his food although he is long gone, my mother has now joined him

By far. This show had it all. From storylines to characters and fantastic comedy actors. Every episode was full of laughs. Wish I was back in those days.
