Listening to this on a Sunday after a bath in front of the fire wearing nice warm pyjamas drinking cocoa before bed bliss happy memories of my childhood in the fifties and sixties

This used to be broadcast at the same time as Gardeners’ Question Time’ - Mum & Dad liked to ‘turn over’ to GQT, but if I managed to distract them, I got to listen to The Clitheroe Kid, which I absolutely loved! Happy days!

Used to listen to this when I stayed with my grandparents, tucked up in bed, I used to cry with laughter, no one I ask has ever heard of it, so good to hear it again

Remember listening to these shows as a kid on the BBC Light Programme/Radio 2 alongsides the like of The Billy Cotton Band Show, The Navy Lark, Does The Team Think, Round The Horne etc. Very funny back in the day and still is now although much of the settings and therefore the humour is of its time. Jimmy Clitheroe also appeared in his own itv show (abc tv I think) but the cameras were a little unforgiving and the magic of what by now was an ageing man playing a school boy in short trousers didn't really work on tv in the same way it did on radio.

This was always on the radio on Sundays, though we always called it the wireless in those days! Classic stuff from an era when Britain was a great place and no-one worried because they didn't have a mobile phone!

I met Jimmy Clitheroe when I was on holiday in Scarborough with my mum & dad (think I was 7-8) - I just remember him being really shy.

I used to listen to this on Sunday nights when I was a little girl. I couldn't remember the exact name, but I've been looking for it for many years. I emailed the host of an old time radio show (I'm in America) in hopes that he would know, but he said he had never heard of it or anything that sounded like the title I gave. I though it was the "Skid Row Kid." Thank you for sharing it.

Hard to believe he was 35 yrs up to 50 yrs of age when doing these radio shows. From 1957 - 1972. He was 4'3''. Apparently a really lovely man who adored + lived with his mum. Quite shy when not performing. He died the morning of her funeral. Accidentally. Sleeping pills + 6 scotch whiskies. I've only discovered + become a keen fan recently. I'm grateful to those who are dedicated to uploading his work, as well as other great vintage radio + TV comedy. An Ossie fan. 👇💜🙃
