You explain everything so well. I appreciate all the videos you make so other people can learn at their own pace. I have certainly learned from you since I started watching your videos. Thanks and keep it up.
@harisbaig87014 жыл бұрын
very well explained! the way i break it down, 1- f'(x) 2- find critical points by setting it to zero. 3- check if the critical number lies between the given bracket. let say [-4,4] is given and the critical value came out 0, we can save it but any number outside the numbers in the closed bracket, simply avoid! 4-plug the critical number and the bracket numbers in the original function. 5- whatever the number comes out, is the abs max and min.

@sufian40949 жыл бұрын
Samantha Jardeleza khan Academy sucks, the Khan guy does not know how to teach and in most cases he will make you even more confused about the topic!
@Supadupatight9 жыл бұрын
sufyan amhMD I don't find that to be true. Khan targets his lessons around concepts and theories of calculus, so you understand where the topic derives from. I favor Patrick's videos solely because he shows you how to work the problem. For some, understanding calculus conceptually isn't a priority.
@jayceinfinitealgharhythmns98149 жыл бұрын
sufyan amhMD I actually have to agree with you! I really don't care to watch or use Khan Academy... He means well but I'm left befuddled sometimes after viewing him.

I give you a function, find it's critical values, then plug both the critical values and the endpoints into the original function. The lowest and highest values for y comply if my teacher is giving me this question is this the same thing you jsut explaine or is the highest and lowest for y something else than max and min

you could have more than one absolute max if two x values had the same y value (which happened to be extrema) on a closed interval, such as a parabola, right? By the way, great videos. They help a lot, thanks.

what if a maximum or minimum is not at one of the end points?
@ZSk8er1232112 жыл бұрын
I usually understand what you say in your videos. But what if once you took the derivative there was no x? Like in 2/3x-5. The derivative makes the X disappear. So what would be the critical points be and how would you find the absolute max and min?
@jayceinfinitealgharhythmns98145 жыл бұрын
There wouldn't be one because the equation you have is a straight line. Its max and min would simply be plus and minus infinity! hopes this helps!
