Was looking for something else and saw your comment. I have since learned that "Brenda Leigh Johnson" is based on a real life person, the first woman to become captain and then deputy chief at LAPD. Mark Fuhrman tried to screw her over big time during the OJ Simpson trial, and as it turns out, the recording of him saying the N-word repeatedly that was used to impeach his testimony after he lied on the stand and said he never uses the word was only the first half. In the second half he was whining and complaining about his female boss, Captain and then Deputy Chief Margaret "Peggy" York. Funny thing about Peggy York was, her husband is Lance Ito (yes, the judge during the OJ Simpson trial)! They met over a dead body back when he was a prosecutor and she a detective.... Let's just say that with a police consultant named Gil Garcetti who was previously the LA District Attorney, there are plenty of parallels in that show! The character closest to Mark Fuhrman is Commander Taylor, who was played by the nephew of another ground-breaking man named Lou Gossett, Jr. Apparently Fuhrman behaved a lot like Taylor does on the show in real life. Matter of fact, if you put Mary McDonnell (Captain Raydor) next to Peggy York, they look so much alike till the only difference is Peggy York's hair color - which is the identical color to Kyra Sedgwick who plays Brenda Leigh Johnson in The Closer. They look identical otherwise!!! I think they were really trying to make a point with that! There's no way there could be so many "coincidences" otherwise....

Hahahahah this is by far my single most favorite part in the entire series. It was truly one of the best series of all time. The paring of actors, and writers all just married perfectly. I sure do miss it and wish it would have just ran to 10 seasons.

This is by far the best series ever. The actors are top notch; the writers are phenomenal. There will never, ever be another "Closer" but Brenda Leigh Johnson. She loves chocolate, and Merlot is her go to wine. What's not to love? Every episode is terrific, but the one that touched me deeply is the one where her sweet Mom died. So many things left unsaid. I'm watching the entire series being rerun on WATCH T.V. Even though it's Feb 2019, there's nothing stale or predictable about this masterful series. Brilliant!

@Zee Bee... Well guess what? Do you know who Judge Lance Ito is? Look him up! And then look up his wife Margaret "Peggy" York, the first female captain and then deputy chief of the real LAPD! She looks JUST LIKE SHARON RAYDOR (with even the same hairstyle and eyewear), who was a captain in the show and has blonde hair the same color as Kyra Sedgwick's Brenda Leigh Johnson. If one were to imagine Captain Taylor as a black version of Mark Fuhrman, you might even get the impression this whole show (except the actual cases) is based on real life! ESPECIALLY when one considers that the police consultant to the show is a former district attorney in real life....!

Look at that vein in Pope's head when he put his head down. 😆. He KNOWS that dealing with Brenda in the padt that she was gonna say what's on her mind, just like in season 1 episode 1, when she told him that's she knows about someone dealing with their boss, and the boss turns out to be somebody the person doesn't know. BRENDA LEIGH JOHNSON- (HOWARD) DON'T TAKE NO BS!! Yall remembered she asked FRITZI that she wanted to keep her last name. THAT MY GIRL!!

Have recently become hooked to this series! Love Brenda who is basically Jessica Fletcher meets Columbo, and her team of lovable scamps. The writing, characters and cast are just brilliant. I know about Major Crimes and part of me just refuses to check it out no matter how much I love the other characters because I can't imagine watching that world without Brenda. Can't believe it took me this long to discover this show!

What's funny is, this show's major premise and scenario is based somewhat on real life at LAPD, and that Mark Fuhrman is the *REAL* "Captain Taylor" of the LAPD who did these same kinds of things to his boss who was the first Captain and then Deputy Chief of LAPD who was a woman! Her name was Margaret "Peggy" York, and she met her husband prosecutor Lance Ito over a dead body at a crime scene. Why this is significant is because when OJ Simpson was set free it was due to an audio recording of Mark Fuhrman that proved that he lied on the stand, the infamous cussing tape where he said the N-word 29 times after saying on the stand that he never used the word even once. But what wasn't known was the part played in court was only the first half of the recording, and that the entire second half that was not played in court was him whining and complaining about his boss the woman who was Deputy-Chief Peggy York, and a perfect example of him behaving exactly the way Commander Taylor behaves on The Closer to Brenda Leigh Johnson. (And yes, it's weird that Mark Fuhrman's boss was married to the judge in the OJ Simpson trial yet that judge didn't recuse himself from presiding over the trial.) It figures. I mean, that's what you get when the police consultant to The Closer is former District Attorney of LA County Gil Garceti.... And on the spinoff Major Crimes they make fun of Fuhrman by having a disgraced former detective character that lied on the stand and got caught in the lies who was named "Clark Farman" who was an obvious play on "Mark Fuhrman" in both word and deed.

I'm watching The Closer because I've never seen the whole series before and I'm currently on season 1. I don't understand why so many are against her. Is it just because she's from a different state and department? Because she's a woman? Or because she has a different approach to handling cases? I don't get why so many are trying to undermine her and push her out.
@jadefire2817
@jadefire2817 6 жыл бұрын
Well, to be quite frank it's because Commander Taylor was jealous that she got the position *HE* wanted. So he uses his "in" with people to discredit her, and to turn other officers against her. When they get to know her on their own, instead of just deciding to be on Taylor's side, it turns around.
@crincon
@crincon 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Taylor is not amused, so he does what he can to make her life difficult. Also, Brenda is not miss congeniality either: when she's after a murderer, she's single-minded and relentless, and she steps on whoever stands on her way. And she doesn't mince words for people she considers incompetent, like the District Attorney lady or the FBI agent in this scene, both of whom screwed up badly in previous episodes. So yeah, picture that happens to you at work: some woman is brought in, out of the blue, by the boss (who was sleeping with her, back in Atlanta), she's never worked a single day in your office and she already outranks you, bosses you around, exposes your mistakes and calls you incompetent to your face, in front of everyone. How would you react? And I mean, yeah, she *is* brilliant, and she is right, but people don't know it yet. And even if/when they know, human nature being what it is, people just get defensive and attack her. I think it's quite understandable, this series is well-written. And Brenda is such a fantastic character.

Yeah, she's and outsider, and then AWKWARDLY known to her squad that she is Pope's ex mistress. But Brenda stood her ground and (in my opinion) Pope was still trying to get in her panties, but BRENDA LEIGH JOHNSON wasn't gonna fall for it. 😂😂
