It does. Just like Sony and Microsoft lose money on every gaming console sold and make that up with their subscriptions and sold games this is entirely plausible here. Also, nobody knows what happens to 3D models being routed over their cloud. Just like Microsoft and Google read the emails of your free account they could make money with the models of their users. Somebody in Reddit reported how his friend ordered PCBs from Chinese manufacturers which he later found on Temu, the design blatantly copied.

It's also worth noting that last year it was discovered that Bambu printers were uploading ALL gcode sent to the printer from the user to Bambu servers even if the "send logs to bambu" option was unchecked. If the printer was on a network, it would send everything you print to Chinese servers. Combine that with the fun law the China has that requires any Chinese company to comply with the PRC and give them access to all data they have... Fun times. I've been warning about stuff like this for a while now but people just called me a conspiracy theorist. There's nothing inherently wrong with products from China, but closed source stuff from China should be treated as not safe. Most of my printers still require SD cards, but I'm in the process of converting them to Klipper. I'm so done with anything closed source.

Like I said, not being paranoid doesn't mean you're not being spied on ;-) A healthy dose of skepticism is a good thing. It's also not a crazy irrational tinfoil hat theory. DJI drones can report the location of the owner (Bambu was founded by DJI employees) for example. It's not hard to imagine them following in the footsteps of apple, locking you into a walled garden and subscriptions. This might never happen but I'm not willing to take any chances.

This is misinformation and has already been debunked; on top of that, bambu's cloud servers are only in china for chinese users. As someone coming from China, here are my two cents. It is pretty common for Chinese tech companies to do this type of shady stuff with the software and they usually think they are pretty good at gaslighting people into believing their narrative, due to their experiences in the Chinese domestic market. When they go into the western market, they tend to rely on their old practices, which most of the time would not work as well. By the way, part of the reason why their stuff is cheaper than the competition, is that they are subsidized by the Chinese government as an effort to "boost Chinese technology advancements". It is well known in China. They've taken the sweet CCP money, so maybe one more reason to be paranoid :)

A 3D printer just like any other CNC tools by its nature does not require Internet connection by default. It is more safe without it. Especiaally when your files/workpieces contains or they are entirely considered your intellectual property. By default any tools like these should operate without limitation, without purposely increased complexity. There is no direct benefit using a cloud service with a stationary device, such as a workshop for example. @ adding gcode isn’t a hack. It protects the machine from people who don’t understand what they are doing. This thing is easy-mode after learning on an ender 3. If the control was right there in the interface, there would be problems because of the low experience required to use Bambu compared to previous generations of printers.

Your only option to adjust Z-Offset is to change it in the GCODE and start a new print until you've arrived at the right value. It's the Apple way of doing things: as long as everything is fine it just works. As soon as something needs intervention you need to jump hoops to get it working.

I'll take my heavily modified Creality CR-10 or my also heavily modified chinese clone i3 over the complications that were described here. These "closed ecosystem" printers remind me of Apple, and I despise Apple. They treat a person like they are so dumb, they can't solve their own problems through research and learning with the help of online communities. I have built my own computers ever since I was old enough to afford parts, and the IBM-compatible x86 PC architecture enabled hobbyists like me, and small repair shops to thrive. Apple actively stifles this. In similar fashion, Bambu won't let tinkerers and the like have access to absolute control, for those who have the ability to understand and use it.

Even if theyvdo revert this thyve made sure I'll never buy anything from then again. Also The A1 does the earthquake sim too, I think its a calibration step for the good print quality, i believe its for vibration reduction when printing. So now I’m ofc rethinking buying that printer now, but I don’t have found any other alternative to the A1. You can disable the dynamic flow calibration; you'll still get a poop at the start of each print, but it will be less. Yes, the vibrations at the start of each printer is basically input shaper running. If your friend was having first layer issues, it was likely a setting, filament, dirty build plate or user issue. Especially if the printer had previously been printing just fine. The color changing option is indeed there, it's just called change filament. You slice your print, bring the layer to where you want to change the color, right click and at the bottom is "change filament". And you can pick from one of the numbered filament presets you have loaded on the left. The rest of your video is pointless speculation and fear mongering. Please stick to the facts. Bambu is not locking you to their software, if you want to use third party slicers like orca you just have to use the bambu connect app instead of being able to send to the printer directly from orca. Check their blog post's most recent update, it has a video showing the process. It seems pretty seamless to me. A lot of your complaints stem from bambu being closed source. This is how they've been from the beginning. Why buy into their ecosystem expecting more? You're just setting yourself up for disappointment.

His prints worked but weren't close enough to the bed to look good. Nothing to do with dirt. You've seen the screenshot from right clicking. Without AMS there is no option to change the filament. What they're doing has nothing to do with security. You don't need to lock out other software for security. You already need to authorize with the printer before anyone can access it. @@cchladny Except that 3rd party software devs are the ones stating BBL is locking them out. BBL says they are working with 3rd party vendors, but the vendors are telling a different story. I don't expect Orca or Panda to be working with a BBL printer in the future, but who knows. I honestly don't care if BBL locks out 3rd party vendors, it's their eco system and they can do whatever they want. The issue I have is them lying about it and trying to gaslight thier customers. They could have simply come out and stated they don't want 3rd party software running thier printers because they have no control over it. They could have spun that as a positive for the customer, instead they lied and claimed this was about end user security, then proceed to implement a proxy app that makes your printer more vulnerable. That app has already been hacked, and it is clear who ever created that app knows nothing about security. I agree companies change things all the time, but lying about why you are doing so is never a smart business move. They lied to their customers, they doubled down on that lie and blamed the folks raising the alarm, and then they try to gaslight the consumer into thinking everyone else is lying to them. When their TOS contradicts their blog post statements, that's telling. That's how they have decided to run their business, and many people have decided they are not ok with that and will be making thier feelings know via their wallet.

You are wrong about the firmware update. You are ALL wrong. Firstly, it's only a Beta update for people who want to help improve what's coming. Secondly, even BETTER control over your printer is coming, if you turn the setting on (future BETA release). That all you people are so quick to jump to evil conclusions when in fact the whole point is protecting your network from hackers installing bots on your printer is DISGRACEFUL. As for the "insists" this and that, just change the startup script. YOU HAVE FULL CONTROL. Drives me nuts.

Thank you for regurgitating Bambu Lab's blog post. Only a beta: Means it will be standard when it comes out of beta. Meaningless. Better control over printer: Better according the the company. Takes choice away from users. The whole point is protecting: Okay, while taking away choice and forcing connection. You have full control: Not of how the printer operates. That's the whole problem. Plus, why are they doing this before the launch of the new printer? The concerns are valid.

Ok nuts. I have full control of my printer. Since I have full control, this also means I have full control of it's security. Meaning, I don't need Bambu Labs protecting it. Unless, I don't have the control. Hmmm, let's see, I create a file with a modeling app, slice it with another app, copy it to usb, plug it into the printer and print. All of this takes place completely offline. Where is the threat of hackers ? How can they hack an offline system ? No sense in me purchasing any product requiring online access. Zero. Meaning Bambu Labs is now ZERO to me. My filament is purchased in person and has no ID on any spools.

Actually, you're wrong. It was NEVER "just a beta" the original release date for the firmware was the 23rd of Jan. Bambu promptly stealth edited the blog post and removed this part so they could say "it's just a beta calm down" and people like you fall for it.

Turns out you need to add a second filament on the left, until then there is no option to change it in the menu. That's just bad software design.
