The part about Cologne is not up to date. The inner minister of Nordrhein-Westfalen publicly spoke about this connection, which he was later critisised for by the police. The newest public information is that the "Mocro-Mafia" was barely involved, or not at all. It was a conflict within a gang long-established in cologne, when a member stole from them with the help of outsiders. This led to the escalation of violence.

Good luck Germany! The U.S. has been waging a war on drugs for the past 50 years - billions of taxpayer dollars that could have gone to education, infrastructure, fighting poverty or creating an affordable inclusive healthcare system - all wasted! @EarlGreyLattexКүн бұрын
"The war against drugs is unwinnable and is now on par with the failed US-led war on terror. This too is US led and started as a way to legitimately destabilise socialist republics on America's doorstep. But just like prohibition and the war on terror failed, this too is doomed. You cannot conventionally fight this way in asymmetrical warfare. You cannot violently/forcefully control what people put in their bodies. People ingesting these substances is what creates a demand. And as long as there is a demand, supply will always rise to meet it. Cocaine was fading into obscurity in the early 21st century until the Taliban started ramping up production of opium to pay for their weapons, they sold it to the same Americans that were there to fight them. When the military finally managed to strangle the production in the mid 2000's, drug cartels that had been the middle man between suburban drug using America and the Taliban started offering up a more accessible drug to Americans which they could control the entire supply chain of. So the rise of the power of the cartels is directly related to the war on terror. It is asymmetric warfare like I said earlier. How do you win it? Not via Brawn's but by engaging in massive Public Health outreach programmes. Substance misuse needs to be reframed as a public health issue that if left untreated will always lead to criminal issues and not a criminal only issue. This frees up law enforcement, the prison system and the justice system to pivot to dealing with the top level criminals like the cartels and not average Joe blue who is a drug user and funds his habits via petty crime. Joe needs to be dealt with compassion as he's still human and it could happen to anyone, Joe needs specialist intervention both medically to make sure he can quit safely, and he also needs support in the community to help him navigate away from the life which used to revolve around just the substance misuse. Safe use zones and other forms of harm reduction are there to support these victims until they've reached a mental state where they can handle quitting. With the amount of money that has been spent on the war on drugs globally in the last 5 odd decades, I reckon the US could have paid for top notch socialised healthcare/universal healthcare and still had change to spare.... And millions of people would still be alive as well rather than fallen as victims to the "war on drugs". "

Waging war on drugs does not work. How many times do we have to make this mistake? No matter how much you try to stop drugs from entering the country or punish those who distribute them, it will always be impossible to stop drugs because as long as there is any trade or travel in and out of the country, it will always be possible to smuggle drugs in. The only effective way to stop drug violence is through economic measures. Legalization takes away the profit potential of drugs. If drugs are not highly profitable then criminals will not smuggle them and commit violence to defend their markets. While illegal, the huge profit margins on drugs means that even if the majority of their smuggled drugs are caught, the drug trade will STILL be profitable. To drug lords, drug seizures are simply a cost of doing business. And even if enough drugs are seized that it does begin to significantly cut into profits, the drug lords will simply increase the cost of their drugs, and since their buyers are addicted they will pay whatever the drugs cost. All that does is shift the financial cost of the war on drugs onto the people most harmed by it, the addicts. In addition to being the ONLY way to effectively stop illegal drug trade and drug violence, legalization allows the government to regulate drugs which is proven to significantly reduce harm. The government can do things like set limits on drug purity and ensure they are not laced with other drugs, which are both proven to reduce the addictiveness and harm of drugs. Legalizing drugs also allows the huge sums of money currently spent on drug enforcement to be rerouted to addiction services, which is also proven to decrease drug use. Most people addicted to drugs do not want to be addicted, and if stigma free, accessible, and affordable treatment was available they would take it.

Very interesting insight. I think however that Singapore has managed to eradicate drug trafficking by applying death sentence to smugglers. In the past it was used as a trade hub for other Eastern Asian countries, when the then-PM decided to take a harsher approach which has substancially decreased the number of drug users as a result. I can't say that is the right approach, I just wanted to show one case of seemingly effective "war on drugs". I believe China and Japan are also very hard on dealers

In order for these authorities to be successful in fighting drug trafficking, organised crime and gang activities. They government have to give law enforcement extra ordinary powers to detain and hold people suspected of these crimes. People have to be uncomfortable knowing authorities can deal with them accordingly.

Stop using drugs or make them legal… as long as there’s demand there will be an offer.

I just began watchin 28 seconds ago. And I already bet that I will see the torture container again. Obviously the press has no news and always relies to the same old content. And really. At 15:53 it is. Boring.

2:27 It's not destroying the drug trade that really matters, it's helping people who are addicted to drugs. If you want to destroy the cartels, make all drugs legal and treat the users appropriately. Stop wasting money on a ‘war’ you cannot win. Surely the police don't want that, because they should be doing useful things instead of what they're doing now: emptying the ocean with a teaspoon.

Visting Amsterdam was really interesting, be offered cocaine in such an open way and the police being just one or two blocks away. The open market posed a lot of questions over whether these dealers were openly operating with the protection of police units.

Ecuador is already a narco state. And the “war on drugs” is likely to yield more effective outcomes if focus is shifted on demand vs supply. The latter is a function of the former not vice versa. The fact that so much focus is on the supply raises questions on if this is just a systemic way to exploit and criminalize the public in the west and the poor in the producing regions.
