This is a down and dirty un-edited video about my experience with my Langmuir Systems MR-1. I've run this machine super hard and found all it's weaknesses. I've been working in machine shops for over 10 years now and want to transition to a home shop. This video is really helpful for narrowing down my choices -- hearing that you've run production on it really is a testament to the capabilities of the machine. The comments about the customer service are really great too -- would it be possible for you to make a video about how this machine handles steel? The only ones I can find are from Langmuir itself. I'd like to see someone else really pushing the machine.

Glad it was helpful! I'm working on a video with more steel machining content. The footage I have is with less then optimal cutters. I've got some 6 FL ALTIN coated cutters on the way that will show the machine in a better light. I have a video or two where I machined knifes out of 1095 high carbon steel on the channel currently.

Bro, I’m saving up for mine and won’t get it until summer probably next year. Thanks for the great content and advice. When is Langmuir going to start paying you? You’re their number 1 sales rep😂

They just called me yesterday to notify me my machine is ready to ship! Im excited to make parts. Originally was gonna get a syil x7, but couldn't get financing. Paid around 13k fully assembled with shipping

Nice!! It's a great machine. nobody comes close to this kind of bang for the buck. my next machine is going to be the Tormach 1500mx. It has larger working envelop and faster speeds than the syil x7. I just need to save up my money. :)

@@BeckTools Coming from a tormach 1100MX owner, tormachs can be nice to get your start but certain things will keep you scratching your head or make you wish you bought something else. There is definitely a big difference between a 1100MX and 1500MX but still seems like there are a lot of weirdisms and limitations like spindle HP and build quality. For the kind of money a built out 1500MX will be after all the options, it might just be worth taking the leap to a HAAS if you're planning to make money on the machine. I'm currently paying $2k/month for my 1100MX for a 2 year loan but could do a fully loaded VF2SS or VF4SS for the same monthly taking advantage of their in house financing for a 4-5 year loan. All depends on what you're looking to use the machine for and if you enjoy working on it yourself vs paying for a service tech that will actually fix the problem.

Hey bud, I am commenting here because it is your most recent video. Could you point me to one of your videos that shows your air compressor & drying system for your Langmuir crossfire pro + Everlast 82i? I am in the process of setting up my own units and looking for some guidance with setting up a proper air compressor system to run the plasma cutter effectively

as another user of this, stock limit switches failed bad. just like you upgraded to the new ones and no issues. I do still use the 3 bolt edge finder and its been working great with no issues for me. It looks like you modified the spindle cover to cut it up for that coolant mod? still need to do that. also on those drains, i wish when building mine i didnt even bother with those corner ones, waste of money, did the long rectangle one in the back like most people and its been ok. i wish i did the drain in the front, and when i poured the epoxy i would have tilted the machine so all the fluid runs forward.
@BeckTools
@BeckTools Ай бұрын
Yeah, those corner drains do more damage than good. I've blocked them off. I want to fill them with epoxy at some point. I had to rill the hole for the shower drain after I pored the concrete. It was a real pain in the butt.

Nice video and mods. My question is regarding chips and bearings, I agree the linear rail caps should be flush as you mentioned, but from the looks of things, you still got chips everywhere including a bunch jammed up on the edge of the bearing block. Do these visible chips, much less any small (dust-size) chips still not get into the bearings and ball screws/nuts? What about the use of baffles, does Langmuir offer them or has anyone thought of modding the machine with them?
@BeckTools

there is not space for off the shelf baffles. I'm trying to find a creative way to add something like this.

I have a question regarding this mill. Just from seeing it I have the question about how much it chatters. Generally speaking the heavier and "stiff" your machine is the less chatter occures. Did you encounter any significant chatter with the MR1 and when yes in what situations did it occure?
@BeckTools
@BeckTools 18 күн бұрын
most of the time chatter is due to improper fixturing of the part. It doesn't take a lot of rigidity to get a good surface finish if you have the right tool path. overcoming improper fixturing or work holding on complex parts is much bigger issue. I've machined steel parts with great results. This machine punches waaaay above it's weight class.
