The collapse of French imperialism in West Africa

The establishment of military rule in Niger represents a turning point in the Sahel. Considered an important bastion of stability by western powers, the rapid fall of the French-backed government in Niamey is only the latest in a series of anti-French coups in a region beset by instability and imperialist interference. Whilst using anti-colonialist rhetoric, which is echoing powerfully across Africa, these new regimes are turning to Russia for support.

What France is doing economically, financially and politically to her former Colonies is unacceptable in this day and age. All former Anglophone African colonies have their own national currencies; while all the Francophone African colonies are still under the control of France, using the CFA. depositing about 80% of their money into the Bank of France. Yes, Africa does not need outside interference to stabilize their countries. The problem is as if these so-called countries. Who's been there to stabilize? Things has done nothing but may things worse because they have been there. Only to look out for Western interest and therefore has created and made the problems even worse. They don't need Western interference. They need to establish their own armies and create stability themselves as mail and berkino faso has done. The notion that Africa can govern itself is false. You know why China or Iran were never colonized? Because they were capable of governing a large nation by themselves. In China any translator caught being more loyal to the foreigners would get assassinated by the boxer secret societies. In Africa what happened was very different, the coastal cities literally started selling the neighbors as slaves to the foreigners. No unity. It doesn't mean Africans don't have huge qualities. But administating a state is not their strong point. And as long as they stay disunited and weak mikitarily, they will fall prey to ressources predation. They shouldn't even bother considering the ressources as their own. It's already over. After russia, in 30 years some other superpower will add 0.5% of revenue for the state and take control all over again. Selling to the previous master while throwing a bone to the population. They should bet on their own work like China. Or they should refuse the rat race all together and keep on enjoying life.

The speaker may be 'too young' to know the roles that Russia, China and Cuba played in the Liberation struggles of many African countries as they fought for independence right into the 1980's. I would not expect that to be taught in any European or Western schools either. I agree with almost everything said here. And this was very detailed and informative. But I strongly oppose the claim that China is acting like a imperialist in Africa. Now as for Russia making attempts to be the new Imperialist in Africa. I would lean towards a maybe, but not sure. But China is definitely NOT doing as claimed by this speaker!

Poutine nationalised the energy sector to return wealth to the state ... if africa is plundered, it will be by multinationals that create wealth in africa but don't pay taxes ... the best thing is to nationalise part of the mines, gas and oil to control like in Rusia ...

@@traceyomoruyi302 the plundering of african countries goes through multinationals ... in minerals or oil they are mostly anglo saxon, they will not leave much to african countries, this is not new ... If Putin has renationalized, it's to prevent his country from being looted ... It's always better when the creation of wealth stays in the country ... it's a national company that exploits Norway's gas, 70% of which is state-owned ... the dividends that go to Wall Street only enrich America LOL

The analysis of France and European policies is correct. However his opinion of African and non European actors is baised and as usual has African actors just bungling into their revolution. He claims over throw of the border has not been done but they are talking of confederacy. He forgets this region wss a single Empire prior to colonialism.
