I didn't realise that only the colour changes when you switch palettes that's interesting Edit {Will watch the rest in the morning sure it's gonna be great as always!}

should have mentioned that these "colors" are numbered, or "indexed" - number (#) 1 is the bottom left corner, and it goes up to #255 in the top right corner... (too bad the palette size can't be bigger, like at least 512 colors would be great, 256 is a bit limited - that's basically an 8-bit color palette akin to NES... or custom palette sizes... 256, 512, 1024,... and so on... but I guess there's a reason why it's the way it is - I'm no programmer, so, I can't tell) I like to think about the "colors" on the palette (or rather more accurately: the materials) as bowls or boxes of sorted (by color) lego bricks, because that's basically what it is - you select a numbered slot or "color" and that's the cubes you're putting or placing down (unlike lego, you only have a one size and shape: a 1x1x1 cube, obviously, but: the amount is unlimited, virtually infinite) the saved palette is an image with "resolution" or size (in pixels) "256x1" - a long "noodle" of an image, you can edit it externally (like in MS Paint) and it'll apply to the palette once you (up)load it into the program (it's a png file, btw) (look, I'm not trying to "teach an eagle to fly", mister teacher man, just saying) ;)

Hey! Good analogies. Thanks for your comment. Yes, you are right. There are 255 colours and each one has a number. Sometimes I try not to go too deep into some concepts that might not be too relevant for people that just want to get creating something on voxels quickly. In fact you can see the number of each material/colour cell in the console as you hover your mouse over any of them. The mysterious part to me is why that last 256 cell is blocked. It could have just one more colour. Not a big deal anyway. Cheers!

@@PedroCasavecchia : I can't be 100% sure why the last color is blocked, but as a programmer who works with voxels, I have a pretty good guess. . . In my own programs, I also have 1 Byte set up for materials, for each voxel (meaning 256 material possibilities). But, like Magica, I also have only 255 actual materials, not 256. Why? Because that extra material slot represents empty space. Although, for my purposes, Material 0 is empty space. BTW, thanks for making all the cool videos! They've been very useful for learning Magicavoxel.

@@PedroCasavecchia Color 0 is indeed empty voxels - if you set a color index in a shader as 0, this element will be empty space

@PedroCasavecchia2 жыл бұрын

@PedroCasavecchia2 жыл бұрын
@@mauriciocortespersonal Bueno.

when i try coloring a model, it just deletes the voxel.
