This is a video trip report of a day hike of the Colorado Trail Segment #3 from June, 2022.
The hike is 13.3 Miles one way, and generally people set up a vehicle shuttle. I did not have that option, so I hiked to the end of the trail then turned around and returned to the beginning. I started at the Little Scraggy Trailhead at 6:00 AM and got back to my vehicle right at 5PM. (25ish miles round trip) I did not realize the actual trailhead was a mile further from where I started, and proceeded to hike it after the video.
The trail starts through forests with varying terrain for the first few miles before gaining elevation as you pass Little Scraggy Peak and Green Mountain. From there you descend for a few miles and reach Buffalo Creek which is a great water source before the final push. the remaining 4 miles are the steepest section of the route. The trail ends at the Wellington Lake Road Trailhead, and where Segment #4 starts and heads into the Lost Creek Wilderness
The trail has water every few miles, with the longest stretch being 3-4 miles without water.
I drank 3 delicious beers on the trail.
Crooked Stave - Yuzu Guru Juicy IPA
New Hokkaido - Yamabiko Japanese Rice Lager
Mountains Walking - Grazing Clouds Hazy IPA
I hope you enjoy the video!

Hey Thorn! This one was a big one indeed. I was kind of pushing the limits of how far I would like day hikes to be, haha. Despite these not being backpacking videos, I've enjoyed putting them together. As always, thanks for the support my friend and I hope you had a great New Year!

That was the All Trails app. It does give a good look on the overall topo map of the route. Although sometimes the mileage and other stats can be a bit off.

Hello Charlotte, I was using Strava for my activity tracking and AllTrails for the topographic profile and mileage.

is it just me or does 3 beers seem excessive? not saying you have a drinking problem or anything, but from a hiking perspective, A thats alot of weight, B alcohol is a poison, i cant imagine that it helps your body. i know that beer does help with hydration, but thats easily outweighed by other cons. just curious, your not the only one i see doing this. I would enjoy A beer at summit, but 3 seems like alot.

@@mtnbound2764 Hey, thanks for the comment. I do not usually drink 3 beers on my hikes but on this day it just felt right! 😜 This was a very long hike but I stayed hydrated with plenty of water and great craft beer!
