Pixel Art just leaves space for your imagination. Triple AAA games do everything for you on visual basis. It's like comparing books to movies, your own imagination provides the immersion.

great video. i always appreciate more eastward videos even though theres a very small amount of them. i really love the game and the atmosphere it has. the characters from the main crew to even the NPCs are so good down to the dialogue itself. when i first played it when the game came out, i found myself talking to the every NPCs quite alot which normally i dont. the pixel art is top tier and the studio has perfected it nicely.

It's because it feels innocent like a picture book, like dreamy fantasy. It feels like kids having fun, playing with wooden swords, not serious, not professional, just playful. It is the art style itself that elicits these feelings, not childhood nostalgia. Its effect is to create anemoia, which is a sense of nostalgia for a time or thing you have never experienced. My thinking about a lot of media changed when I realized that there are no old games, old movies, or old anything - because there are just styles. All of them are actually timeless. And the ideal design for anything isn't straightforward. If you were to try and design the perfect Heaven, you would make it too bland for a few million years and then decide that Halloween parties were fun and should not be given up conceptually, so you add them to your heaven. In games, graphics became "more realistic", which really means uglier because the real world is dirty looking compared to cartoon drawings. Colors of the real world are less saturated, everything is less artistic. The ideal design is the one that is an artwork on every frame, not too dirty, not too realistic. They made a Lion King CGI movie people disliked because it was too bland due to the lack of facial expression. Realism isn't the ideal design, but a trap one entertains for a while before one realizes it's not ideal.

Great video! The game that got me into pixel art was Zelda Minish cap and undertale. Pixel art games bring out the joy of gaming in me something which these AAA games can’t now a days.

If there was a game that would have "my childhood" written on it, it would be Minish Cap

Some pixel art games I've played/seen that have some great atmosphere had to be Crosscode and Radio The Universe. Both games gave such an intriguing atmosphere through their pixel art. Radio The Universe is not fully out yet, but it had a short demo which still gave a nice demonstration of the atmosphere. As for Crosscode, it was a great demonstration of the art.

Great video man! It makes me happy to know other people feel the same way about pixel games. I'm 37 so the only games we played when we were kids were 'pixel' art. But as I grew up I too was more into the AAA titles, but for some reason I just can't play AAA titles anymore, unless they give me a certain feeling... Hideo Kojima's games always do it for me, or Mario. But for the most part I find pixel or retro game to be the most appealing the past few years. I think it's because they are actually not insanely huge with shit ton of dialog, which I used to be into, but as an adult I just don't have to to listen to Dickarse Bill tell me about something I really don't give a shit about. It's funny the massive games try to pull you in by being super 'Immersive' but for me the fact that they are super fucking massive makes me not want to play them, so to me it's the opposite. The best game I played in a long time was Cyber Shadow, that game was soo good. But I just picked up Sea of Stars a few weeks ago, I just never had a chance to play it yet haha!

That’s awesome man! What a great comment thank you! I still love AAA games with final fantasy 16 being my most recent favorite, but I’ve defined been taking a liking toward this style more…I’ve been meaning to make a vid on HiFi Rush as well and the power of cell shading and saturated colors, the style ages so well too!

@@thoughtsfromtheshower Hey man, gonna give you a more balanced take: 1) Your voice is great. Your cadence is great. Your emotive language is great. Your video topic is great. Keep it up! 2) Your script could use a little work. I really liked this video, and there's nothing wrong with a video being long, but you do tend to rehash the same thing over and over several times. Your thoughts seem incomplete. You know the quote: "If I'd had more time, I'd have written you a shorter letter." Not saying this should be shorter, but I do think you should focus a bit more on the development of your ideas in your script, rather than just vibes, if that makes sense. Good luck!
