The prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم was asked when the Hour was, and he replied "what did you prepare for it?" If the Time of the mehdi is now or in a 1000 years, you will die anyway and will only bring your deeds with you. May Allah make us from those who take heed

Did you purposely include the word "Imam" before "Mahdi" to get more views? We don't call him "Imam", we don't believe he's an Imam like the Raafida do. Yes, he will lead the prayer when 'Eesaa (عليه السلام) comes, but he's not from the 12 Imams which the Raafida believe in; the one who's been dwelling in a hole for a Millenium (according to them). We simply call him the Mahdi; no need to precede his title with "Imam".

There's a hadith where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said "This matter will not end until there have been among them twelve caliphs.” (Bukhari). I guess you can interpret that as Imams interchangeably as 'Rulers', hence Imam Mahdi ("the rightly guided leader" or "the rightly guided ruler"). And Allah (glory be to him) knows best.

So why precede the Mahdi with that title? The only people that refer to him as "Imam Mahdi" are the Shi'ites - who believe he's their twelfth Imam - or the Sufis - who are in cahoots with the Raafida. Pick your poison. The Salaf used the title of Imam for scholars who were mountains of knowledge. The Raafida have a completely different understanding of what an Imam is. They believe that their 12 Imams are infallible, just like the Prophets and Messengers. They believe that their Imams have knowledge of the Unseen. They believe that their Imams have control over all the atoms of the entire Universe. That is Shirk Akbar. They basically take and remove all the attributes of Allaah (عزوجل) and apply them to their Imams. And their cave-dwelling Mahdi - who's been hiding for more than a thousand years - is different from our Mahdi. And if assume their version of the Mahdi to be true, then it would contradict the Hadeeth which you quoted since the Mahdi is coming at the end of times, but their so-called Imam Mahdi is already present (but is hidden).
