Another item that I didn't notice on the list is Troy Barnes left the series (Season 5 Episode 5) by setting off to sail across the world with the actor LeVar Burton. The very next episode Buzz Hickey was watching the news and on the bottom of the screen was a news ticker stating "BREAKING NEWS: LeVar Burton and non-celebrity companion captured by pirates in the gulf of Mexico.". Meaning Troy was abducted by pirates, but no update is ever given about Troy or LeVar's well-being. So they may be dead, but this would make for one hell of a movie plot if you ask me *hint hint nudge nudge NBC, we're still waiting*

Kind of surprised I haven't seen this one yet: In season 3, episode 07, Troy says, "We spent our whole lives being told that blanket forts are only for special occasions, like sleepovers or when uncles die." Also, in season 2, episode 10, Troy wants to order a 7 and 7 because it was his uncle's favorite drink, who passed away recently. In the previous episode, "conspiracy Theories and Interior Design" Troy and Abed make their first blanket fort. I think it was a coping mechanism for Troy to deal with his uncle's passing, although it's not mentioned on-screen.

The IT lady being cursed must be a reference to the Season 6 episode where Frankie says all of her e-mails to the IT department get "bounced back in Aramaic" and any time she calls all she can hear is "an undulating, high-pitched whistle that makes my nose bleed." This is obviously a reference to both characters being played by the same actor but could be misinterpreted as just the IT lady being cursed, or a demon or something by people who don't get the joke.

Community is, on the surface, a funny and meta sitcom... But underneath it is a character study about flawed individuals feeding an unending toxic cycle of narcissism through their codependence. And honestly that's why I love it. The main characters are seemingly presented as a flawed but ultimately decent people, but every other character on the show besides the main ones are constantly talking about how self-absorbed and obnoxious their friend group is. It's my absolute favorite running gag and not something you notice until a few rewatches later.

The fact I used to see a lot of Study Groups at my community college and that they were all exact copies of each other except with different genres really makes your comment so much more poignant than it needs to be
@TheQuietCottage
@TheQuietCottage Жыл бұрын
Yes! That's something particular I've noticed this rewatch around! (I'm on my second rewatch lol): that all the members of the group act like they're essentially normal with a few quirks or essentially moral with a few hangups, but that they willingly - even gleefully and smugly, such as in the biology group work episode with Todd and the turtle - shake off any thought that they may be the problem, aka a self-centered group that codependently only cares about themselves. Which I know is restating what you already said really well. But it really is mind boggling. And I think the writers of the show purposely play on even that somewhat meta audience knowledge (that the group thinks they're fundamentally sane and normal but that they're actually just narcissistically deluded) in several episodes. Like the episode where the group has been expelled from Greendale under Chang's rule and Abed is referred to the therapist. In that episode, it's so easy for us as the audience to momentarily believe that all the members of the group have made up Greendale as a group psychotic break, an experience centered around them, because we as the audience already - even if somewhat subconsciously - believe that that's what they're doing. So the writers of the show both create this overarching bait and switch motif of the group as codependent narcissists disguised as quirky regular people, a motif that spans multiple seasons, and then play on that same fairly subtle motif, in ways that we identify with but may not even realize why. This show is so intense.

A note about the Beetlejuice thing: It was not fully planned and patiently executed as you'd think. When they wrote the third Beetlejuice, the writers noticed it was the third time they'd said Beetlejuice, so they added the costume gag in.
@topcornermedia9718
@topcornermedia9718 2 жыл бұрын
Even more so. The third Beetlejuice joke was written into a later episode when one of the writers (Megan Ganz!) mentioned offhandedly to Dan Harmon that this was the third time they'd say his name, so they should probably summon him. Dan liked the idea, so they moved the joke up and shoe-horned it into the Halloween episode (at the last minute, or it wouldn't be a Dan Harmon show), so it would make sense for Bettlejuice to appear.

It's not that Annie's possibly a bisexual at all. It's pretty well established that she's just extremely susceptible to anything that's even remotely of a cliched, expected sort of romantic/sexualized scenario. She immediately falls into being willing to kiss Abed in the early seasons when he's doing his Don Draper impression to make a point, and remember they actually DO kiss at the end of Paintball 2 because it's set up to be this big climactic moment of a movie. Her long time obsession with Jeff also ties into this, that in the Freaky Friday episode, she starts swooning at the Dean when he's barely begun pretending to be Jeff. As far as the almost-kiss with Britta, it's that it's two hot girls who are making up in a very public setting, and the person from the crowd yelling to kiss her then creates a "moment". Annie literally says in the dreamatorium episode that she's in love with the idea of being in love. That's what all of this is. Well, though part of it is also her ingrained nature of also wanting to please everyone. Luckily she does better at growing out of that toward the end of the series.

I think your ACB analysis is close, but IMO Annie and Abed are the culprits, and Abed knows about Annie but not the other way around. The first time the ACB is mentioned is during the episode where Annie runs for student president. She wants to present a strong case for cleaning up the school... what better way than inventing a boogeyman, then presenting herself as the solution? When the student government idea falls through, she no longer has a reason to do the crime, so she gives it up. A few years later, Abed is aware it was her and decides to start a copycat case. He is aware of the techniques and wants to create a David Fincher* style episode, so he starts coining people and remains aloof to keep suspicion off himself. Annie's interest in the case is because she knows SHE is the bandit, or at least the original, and doesn't want to see her work claimed by someone else. Her interest isn't in catching the bandit, but rather revealing them to be a fraud. However, upon the news of Pierce's death, perspective takes over and she no longer thinks its important.

Which they left clues about in the leaked email episode when Chang makes fun of her for always emailing her sister. I have a long standing theory that in the final moments of the study group when Chang says he's gay it gives us the true insight on Pierce Hawthorne. If you follow the character arcs between the two characters you can clearly see there is more than a friendship between the two. The fact that Pierce also tends to see his own flaws in others ie: when piece says he can break a man with only one word in Accounting of Lawyers where he calls Jeffs old friend out on being balled, Pierce is shown countless numbers of times doing this same thing with Jeff referring to him as gay. Also if we look at the 21st century romanticism when Pierce gives his speech about Brita, Jeff notifies how it was surprisingly supportive showing that Pierce has different beliefs to his father. Also if we look at the Relationship between Pierce and his father in Advanced Gay we get an idea of the family dynamic between him and his father. Also the Episode where Pierce says he's been married 7 times and Jeff responds maybe it's that you keep getting married i feel could have a double meaning of maybe you're marrying for reason other than your own. All in all i think it would be cool to see a KZbinr take up the task of presenting this better and maybe with more examples.

Another thing about Duncan being a legit psychologist who does have an interest in his work and not just alcohol is the dedication he put into analysing Abed's Christmas breakdown. He very easily could've ignored it, but he was genuinely interested in Abed as a case study for a paper; a paper that would require a lot of peer-review and hours of work and research to ever properly publish, which was his goal. He may be a character led astray by being a pervert and a drunkard (and Br*tish :P), but he was very much interested in doing his job. Publishing a paper isn't easy or for slackers/the uninterested. Also, Rich is the true Ice Truck Killer hehehe

I don't think Rich is a serial killer but instead a well written flawed character much like everyone else in this show. He's charming, kind and is eager to please, this is a result of being told by his mother his whole life he is worthless. Rich is good at hiding he is flawed which in return makes Jeff jealous/paranoid of Rich, Rich is everything that Jeff wants to be but not exactly. The ending of S01E19 is a perfect example of how they're both missing something in each other, when Jeffs memory of his mom gives him great life advice (you can tell his mom was caring of him by the way of how he thinks of her in is mind i.e she is teaching him something) and then Rich hears his mother and he only hears bad things from her thus resulting in him having a bad childhood. Jeff learns to not be so obsessive about being the greatest at everything which ultimately progresses Jeffs character development, thanks to to Rich.

I don't understand why there is an 'Ass Crack Bandit' theory here that is so specific when its basically confirmed in the episode that the culprit could be EVERYONE! In the end scene Jeff and Annie console each other. To cheer Annie up Jeff confidently suggests that there will be more 'crackings' by saying "he'll be back" and Annie immediately replies even more smugly "or her". Both stare at each other suspiciously and then we get a montage of different characters that suggests they all have motive. The conclusion is left ambiguous but what we realise is that they ALL did it, at least once.This is how 3 crackings occurred across the campus at once. Its a trend of copycats. Britta wants to write a psych paper on it, Abed wants to homage it, Shirley profits of it and etc. Both Annie and Jeff presumably have also 'cracked' people, hence why they are so confident that the Bandit will return but both think they know the gender. They basically encouraged it because they liked the chase, their intimacy. Maybe they didnt literally start it but individually both would keep up the cracking if it meant more time together investigating. Ultimately though, it doesn't matter because the premise crime is intentionally petty and stupid! Anyone can crack anyone, we're not talking about literal murder here

It's easy to dismiss Duncan as not a good psychologist because his character is meant to contribute to comedic effect whenever he's there and it ruins the notion of him being good. One example is proving the Duncan principle. What had happened was he broke down when Abed wasn't budging, which was of course made for comedic effect (and a great one at that) but a good psychologist would have taken notes to broaden his theory. Of course, the latter would have been boring for a sitcom. Another great example of him being good is when he talked to Jeff about his argument with Pierce in the Anthropology class about Pierce's mom (the lava lamp). He actually figured out what was going on but Jeff misinterpreted what he needs to do since he is so egotistic and wanted to prove to Pierce that death is the end.

I agree that Duncan would have been better to see throughout the series, but I think that the writers just found it challenging to find a good spot for his character to fit in. Duncan being an "outside of the group friend" for Jeff worked really well in the pilot, since you were still getting to know Jeff and the Study Group didn't even exist, but after Jeff becomes totally enmeshed with the Study Group, Duncan starts being superfluous and even out of place at times. I really like John Oliver and wish he could have been more intertwined, but from a writing perspective I totally see why he didn't rise to a more prominent role until the 5th and 6th Seasons

The IT lady thing with Frankie might refer to a joke made in the last season where I think it was over the whole “Dog went to Greendale” situation where Frankie has to call the IT lady about something but says when she tries she only here’s high pitched ringing, like if you called a phone close to you and made a sound

Saying that Dan Harmon and Chevy chase hate each other betrays a misunderstanding of their relationship and an ignorance of the Harmontown podcast. Dan Harmon has said in multiple occasions following the incident that he likes Chevy and the reason they clash is because they're the same, and that they are still friendly with each other when they are not fighting

"Too many feet" probably refers to a throwaway joke when Chang is the security guard for Greendale. He's "married" to a mannequin leg which "dies" in a fire. This itself is a reference to Dan Harmon's sexual preferences which he speaks about at length in his Harmontown podcast. Apparently Dan really has a thing for feet and legs and actually had a mannequin leg himself, which, one could only assume...was a bit of a companion for him at times.

Dan Harmon describes Chevy Chase as a friend. He said by the time that story of the wrap party broke they were friends again and laughing about it. If you list to HARMONTOWN Dan describes the whole thing in great detail.

There's a delicious irony that Ken was in the group chat but not Donald. P.S. The "Season 4 is the Roll-3 Timeline" only works if you treat the further flirting between Britta and Troy as not leading anywhere. Assuming the end of Season 3 is in the main timeline, they were clearly going to hook up. It just seems like a shallow way of ignoring a natural relationship.

I think the "Jeff is Leonard" theory is kinda busted by that season opener when the frisbees on the roof crash through the building and they flash back to Leonard in his 40s in the 70s showing he through the first Frisbee up there. That's when they do the "tears in the rain" bit. So maybe they're both replicants? lol

Being successful don' t happen by magic Success is dependent on the action or steps you take to achieve it. Show me a man who doesn't have an investment and I will tell you how soon he'll go broke Investment is building a safe haven for the future: with the right choice of investment that has at least 1% minimum risk and with an Expert guidance, profit and interest should be 700 guaranteed.

I’ve always thought that the Duncan principle was really stupid. The theory is that if people have a negative experience, they will have a negative reaction. Is this really psychological theory material?

The test subjects could have left without making a fuss whenever they wanted to, you know, like a normal person. But every single one minus the outlier decided to flip out in one way or another. So yeah, it the Duncan Principle was a real phenomenon, then it would actually be heavily studied by psychologists.

Hear me out: her and Frankie should be a thing. I love Britta but she is too performative. She likes being the center of attention so she would want to push her relationship with Annie in the public eye to show that she can be strong as wlw. Meanwhile Frankie likes to keep her dating life hidden which is perfect for Annie. The STD episode showed that Annie is pretty insecure about her sex life. She doesn't like it at all if she represents herself in that light. She can't even pronounce the word "lesbian" due to her shyness. Therefore I imagine Frankie and Annie having a cute passionate relationship of taking everything slowly and comforting.

@@hassanalkhalaf1115 I agree with you. Annie and Britta doesn't make any sense. On the other hand, after the end of the show it is quite clear that Jeff and Annie are going in different directions and are at different times in her lives, in fact he assumes that he has already let her go, so imagining them together in the future is unlikely.... but Annie and Frankie sounds very very interesting

The IT lady being cursed stems from a theory that Frankie is a demon who possessed and replaced her and there’s like a bunch of demon lore touched on this and includes the joke about the mail bouncing back, there’s a few videos out there I highly recommend checking them out Also this is the first time I’ve been able to do the “if you know anything about this one let me know in the comments” comment :,)
