Let's just recap. Guts; 1. was born from his mother's corpse, never knew his real dad 2. was beaten and raped as a child all while being forced to fight on a battlefield at the age of six 3. killed his crazed adoptive father in self defense and fled the campsite after being accused of murder and betrayal by the people who were his only family growing up 4. slept his nights alone with only his sword as his faithful companion 5. frequently suffers from PTSD and nightmares of the people he's killed and the friends he once had 6. joined the Band of the Hawk and finally found a new sense of camaraderie and friendship along with Casca, who eventually became his girlfriend. And then he saw them all get gruesomely murdered right before his eyes during the Eclipse. 7. had to watch Griffith, a man he trusted and was inspired by, betray him and all his friends for power. 8. also had to watch Griffith violently rape Casca while his right eye got gouged out and after he had been forced to cut off his left arm. 9. woke up along with Casca as the only survivor of the Eclipse, only to find out she had lost her memories of being with him and had been reduced to a stuttering child with a new demon fetus after Griffith forcibly impregnated her. 10. was afflicted with a cursed brand that regularly draws curses and demons to him that can possess and kill anyone in the area where he's unfortunate enough to rest for the night, not that he ever gets to sleep. 11. watches people who give him even a bit of care die constantly all because of the demons that his brand draws in. 12. struggles with the thought of eventually going insane and killing the few people he cares for now. 13. walks the earth tired and bleeding with his only purpose in life being to murder Griffith. 14. wears a cursed armor that literally rips his body apart to hold him together in battle should he get too injured. ................Definitely been through a lot.

"Griffith falls over on Caska." You're technically right, but I think that's mischaracterizing the situation. He was trying, in vain, to sexually assault her. Just as he tried to choke Guts to death. He was more or less testing the extent of his power. And yeah, he was most assuredly castrated and couldn't do it if he wanted to, but it wasn't about that... it was about making her feel the way he wanted to. Fear, disgust, excitement... anything but what she showed: pity. It's no coincidence that the first thing he does when he gets his new body is to carry out what he tried before. It was revenge... as in "you would pity ME? You should fear me."

Good point. Griffith's torture was propably the most disturbing thing that happened in the series. It's way worse than Game of Thrones. The way that the characters react to tortured Griffith is what makes it so vile. In Game of Thrones Theon wasn't that proud. In other words, Japanese naming culture (for the thousand variants there are) doesn’t apply here. I swear berserk might actually be the best manga I've ever seen. Better than arc one of the promised neverland, naruto, jujutsu kaisen etc. I guess it hasn't needed yet but honestly speaking it's god like. The storyline and world building is insane. I've never seen a piece of fiction do a medieval era so we'll, it does this even better than how one piece handles pirates or jjk handles wizards, or been demon slayer handling demon slayers. Im going to do my best to wait till about when I'm 20, hopefully by then the berserk manga has ended and I can finally get closure, for the next two years I'm going to slowly read through the berserk manga. This manga is god like and this is my first time knowing what the timeline is like.

@@craven4bmore709 I think you are looking at it wrong. First, the guy didn't just stop because he didn't care, he had serious medical issues. Second, creativity isn't something you summon, although people try. Game of Thrones took an extra year... twice... and the seasons after 5 (or 6) were abominations. There isn't a human on earth that would have chosen what they got over a good story that took longer. The Mangaka didn't hate the fans or the story, he was falling apart inside and out. Berserk isn't really the story to do never ending filler arcs with. It didn't have a wild cast of kooky characters fueled by the power of friendship. It had real death, real stakes, real endings. Enemies didn't magically turn into friends when defeated and they didn't escape to fight again later when they failed to become an ally. The hero loses. The monsters win. There is no focus testing endless powers and quirks for later. In 90% of scenarios, each Bad guy has to be created, has to look awesome, has to have cool abilities, and is never seen again. Even Bleach reuses most characters, and they kill 100x more than the next major anime does. It's Christmas, but we can be grateful all year long.

Read through berserk here. I personally don't understand why the rape horse is constantly referenced as if it had a significant point in the story. It lasted for a total of about two pages and was killed in one stroke of Guts's sword. The story has a ridiculous amount of more dark moments compared to the notorious horse, if you ask me.

Not exactly related but I wanted to share my opinion: I find the scene when Griffith dislocates guts shoulder to be oddly deep. Despite being obviously beaten and he isn’t going to win guts refuses to admit defeat. It really adds to his character and shows why he’s called “the struggler”

Spring flowers of the distant days.. i cry every time at i read that chapter, thats like a small filler of like mby and episode or two but its so powerful, seeing her being scared yet curious, careful yet friendly, her excited naivety and the fact that in the end she sacrificed her leaves knowing she will die out and Guts will be able to get out and do what she never could.. i hope her spirit is having fun somewhere in the astral world

@@Genericname842 yeah for me her and Judeau, but Berserk isnt about dying, im more moved by the kind of melancholic moments like the beach scene with Guts saying " i thought, never again. never again could i watch the sun set and be this calm" watching his team play around in the water..or Guts realizing he has comrades again, remembering the old crew, and then seeing a group of people, following him like they used to follow Griffith, now Guts is the one with the dream and people willingly laying down their livers for him, while Griffith has to use his godhand powers to make people and demons ofc submit (Mule best example).. same with the tavern fight scene with Schierke saying "despite all that ican smile" or Farnese getting showered with awe of the young witches of Elfhelm and finally feeling useful, even the scene with old Griffith asking Guts whether he thinks he is cruel, showing that once Griffith very much cared about Guts and his thoughts of him. Those are the scene that move me

I remember my good nights when I used to spend hours reading the manga one more time ... Miura's death is really devastating .. the experience he acquired will most likely never come again, the shows and movies and novels he used to talk about that had in impact on him are no more, no new writers will have the same experience he had and not just the experience it's also the way he perceived what he experienced, it's very unique and I don't think I will ever read any manga remotely as good as Berserk.

However, that was a small error at 28:10, "Griffith drives his sword through the door," while it is Guts who pierced the door.
