You can make a professional record with zero compromises, with only one budget microphone and one audio input. I want to prove it to you, and open up a little bit about my own personal writing process while doing so :)

So many albums out there were made with just an SM57. You'd be questioning your spending so many times over👀

The secret to a great recording.. great song, great parts, great instruments, great players, the producer and recording engineer making artistic decisions that serve the song. Well done Ricky!

Your BEST F***ING VIDEO YET!!! This is great content. One part tech stuff, one part process, one part philosophy/life-coaching (with out the scam-y stuff associated with "life-coaching:"). Truly inspiring stuff. Thank you! Thank you! THANK YOU!

What’s weird is, I have a massive, unhealthy obsession with microphones. I love them all, I think even bad ones can be used for something. I have an equally unhealthy collection of microphones. But here’s the thing, I record almost everything I do an a Lauten Audio LA320 tube mic. I have literally 38 choices in my humble home studio but that’s the mic I keep coming back to. I love it!

The truth is that references are used a LOT in writing/composing/recording/producing music. I love that you mapped it out in this way to show that you need to use whatever you have at your disposal to JUST START WORKING!!! Blank page syndrome is very real, so thanks for eliminating any stigma attached to this approach.

I truly loved this! My buddy / drummer lives in IN and I live in TN. He records at home with just a few mics and then sends the tracks to me. Then I record guitar, bass and vocals at home with just a few mics. Seeing that you did it with just one truly inspired me. And great song, dude. It really makes me feel better that I'm not the only one who uses other songs as a reference. I do that a lot. "I want a song kinda like this..." And then I'll record 3 or 4 ... or more different versions of the same song.... it gets maddening. The slow version, the fast version, the rock version, the piano version.... and I sometimes get lost in the woods other times I find the forest. This helped me see that there others in the woods with me and finding their forest. Thanks for making this.

Truly inspiring. This is the channel that makes me open the KZbin app. This is real quality both in the work and production.

Thank you so much for this. Your music is instantly more appealing because of your authenticity. Bravely showing the hardship, the frustration and the flaws in your process is truly inspiring. This gives hope. Thank you so, so much. ❤

“We are in our own room recording ourselves, do whatever you want” is the kind of inspirational quote we need in our feeds. Also, 100% agree with you about a bassline melody, as soon as your bass part kicked in I was hooked 🔥

That bit about insecurities and getting it right and doubting yourself as a musician - that kicked me in the feels so hard. I found your channel recently after trying to get back into recording and releasing a song a month for a year and am experiencing all of those things. Thanks, I really needed to hear that. I helps alot.

So glad you included the montage of the recording process frustrations! This hits so close to me as I think my recording sessions have to be somewhere around 70/30 recording and cursing to myself. There was a time where I thought I had pretty good time when playing and recording myself really demonstrated to me just how sloppy I can be a lot of the time
