The Complete History of Jakks' Sonic Prime Action Figures

Classic Jakks and their distribution issues. I remember as far back as 2015 with their first wave of World of Nintendo, the figures were impossible to find. And it only got worse are more desired characters were added to later waves. Overall I feel like their main Sonic line has been decently available, but there are still entire waves my stores skipped over randomly. Never got into the Prime line, but I saw the Chaos Sonic once and kinda wanted it. Might have to actually find one now after seeing him in more detail here! Excellent overview of the series, especially for someone like me that never followed this one.

@@LSuperSonicQ Thanks! Yeah I actually remember the WoN line from a while back. (Almost a decade ago geez.) I *really* wanted to assemble the Star Fox team but fell short of Falco whom I am convinced never shipped in-store. It’s wild to think how long Jakks has been making collector-friendly stuff and they still haven’t figured out proper distribution. Heck the Sonic line has now lasted 3 entire Paramount films and any single-carded figure of Shadow is still as difficult to find now as he was in 2019ish.

Tbh, distribution issues is Jakks Pacific's main flaw that prevents it from being a peak company. At my area within the USA, there's like barely anything in stock, especially with newer releases. For example, some sought-after figures based on franchises (like Mario, Sonic) tend to run out pretty quickly at physical stores, and they are EVERYWHERE in online retailers (like Ebay for example). On top of slow restocking, theres resellers who charge it more than its retail price, which makes it all the more inaccessible.

Same here, the targets here have little to nothing and when they do it’s mostly taken away by scalpers. It’s mainly why I don’t go to target as much anymore. My local Walmart tho which is like 5 minutes where I live has a lot of things but not as much as other areas. The only Jakks Sonic Prime figures that they have is the entirety of wave 4 as well as the Sonic Movie 3 stuff and some other leftover Sonic Jakks stuff like the 4 inch Classic Super Sonic figure, some of the figure packs and checklane figures, and the plushies.

The distribution issues with Jakks is mildly infuriating To this very day, I still can't find mephiles, along side the waves that came after It's ridiculous

I think my general rant is: they should have done regular versions of some of the characters in the mix especially Eggman so he could scale with 4 inch better. Also this and the regular sonic line has half the case of sonic and 1 of everyone else. Guess who I find more at my stores? Sonic! I get they want the mc to be readily available but couldn't they do like 2 of 3 characters and 1 reissue+ an extra sonic? I dunno I'm not a marketing expert or something. I still need 2.5 and 4 inch Fang.

Never got anybody except for Rouge and Sonic, wanted Shadow so badly but stores around me legit refuse to stock anybody except for Sonic. it's wild

At least the last wave they did was a re-release of all the popular characters Nine, Rusty Rose, Shadow

I'm gonna chime in about the Nine figure, if that's okay. While very articulated, some people got the figure with a robot tail broken while still in the packaging. 😱

It feels like they sell the same toys over and over, every new wave for mario seems like it includes a bunch of repacks and one new figure

Nintendo has waaaay too many restrictions when it comes to licensing. I remember being SO hyped when Jakks announced the Mario Sunshine Bowser Jr…..they had to can it after announcing because Nintendo had a strict “No GameCube” rule for figures. I fell out of collecting the line because I knew we never going to get those Mario deep-cuts.

It's sad that distribution is what holds jakks back from being great aside from sonic 3 all of the more recent waves have barely showed up at my local Walmart not to mention target oh my god that selection is horrible but sonic prime barely made it to my stores and best figure it had to offer was chaos sonic because almost no other figures showed up aside from dr deep and sonic and the only figure in the mephiles wave I saw was blaze and there was only one of her also they to get their heads in the game and STOP RE-RELEASING SONIC literally all the figures they re release are figures people already have they need to start re releasing rarer figure like the supers or soon infinite, mephiles, and neo when they finally are off shelves. Then maybe people won't have to scour ebay to find a reasonably priced mephiles. (Sorry for writing a whole paragraph I just had a lot to say)

i feel like im going crazy cuz Sonic got a brand new Super form in Prime and everyone just forgot it exists, in season 2 Sonic got that glowy purple Prism form and its was very cool, could have made an awesome toy of that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cool video! i like most of the figures from this line.

Streaming and the general landscape of entertainment today, really makes toys based on tv shows fight an uphill battle for relevance as no one is watching the same things anymore… If this show was on CN in the late/early 2010s it would have been an all timer!

I agree! Funny since this was developed by "Man of Action", same studio as Ben 10 and Generator Rex. Joe Kelly, the head of that studio, has been THE best animated director for action-shows...and the action here was arguably the best part. I think watching Sonic battle badniks and Shadow weekly would've been great. It's when you binge eight episodes at a time of the same thing essentially that gets pretty boring. Also, you should check out "I Kill Giants" from Joe Kelly. It's a pretty amazing comic filled with great action and emotional characters. I remember when it was announced he and his studio were developing a Sonic show I was absolutely thrilled.

There actually is a wave five! It’s just the new yolk sonic, Nine, shadow, and rusty rose rereleases. I’ve never seen in stores however.

I don’t know what your talking about with the waves be exclusive to stores i found every wave in each store easy like wave 4 i first found in gamestop also alot these were available on Amazon, also their isn’t a “gamestop and Target” version of Rusty Rose it’s called a running change all the Rusty Rose you find now is the “target” version you say. Also Black Rose is a obscure character? She had a major player in redeeming Rusty to be on the hero side.
